Another adult maleon the turbine farm, #8 there.
I caught him in an 8' trail in the tall grass perpendicular to the tressle trail that I caught two males on
I figured one would use that gap if traveling along the dredge ditch [Linked Image]

Not real hard to skin, in my opinion. Cold squirrels are tougher.

They smell like wet dogs. Really stinky wet dogs.

They are 3x harder to skin than a fox, you haven't smelled bad until you skin one that died in a snare with a full belly of meat.
The fluid dripping out smells so bad it about makes me sick 🤢

Have you ever tried snares on a slide rig to get them away from a good trail to preserve the trail set? I tried a couple times but ended up with big ovals because they straightened the slide lock out.....lol.

I used to do it for red fox, I had a coyote hit one years ago, my fox stakes were too short, the coyote pulled one stake and had a 20' catch circle lol
A tangle stake might be easier

Don't you know you cant catch coyotes in thick cover LOL

Around here if I set in grass that tall I'd get a danged deer.

As for skinning, I'd rather skin anything else, take the toughest coon you ever skinned and double it, if its more than a day old quadruple it!

They do stink, some more than others, but like an old old dog.

Good job tactical 20!

Mike

So, you set on a location not necessarily on sign...interesting.

Lots of times you don't see sign of your target animals especially when trapping canines and have to go with the location (gut feeling). One of my go to moves is to drive around a field and look for the Q-tip bit of coyote fur hung on a barbwire fence wink

Yes, any defined trail through the grass.
Especially close to a fence intersection, or a place they want to cross.
They will travel and hunt pheasants and stuff using the grass trails
Also I've trapped these farms for years, most of the trails are there every year, some change, some the grass gets knocked down, things can vary a little

I agree, way harder to skin than a fox. But then, foxes peel pretty easily. They have a different smell than a fox but I don’t really mind it. I think fox smell good.

Eh...wot?

A frozen dead coyote is not a pleasure to skin. And yes there is a certain odor about them......jk
