Last year I didn't trap or hunt, this year I trapped about a third of the farms that I usually do.
I just realized tonight that I only caught three young coyote on one farm.
Most of the other 16 were adults, maybe a coyote virus problem?

Night hunting with thermal has taken a big toll here . The younger pups are easiest

Either you don't have many pups in this crop or you're a lot better trapper than I will ever be!

Don't worry, they will be back

I have been trapping about 45ac and thought I had them in check last year. Not many on game camera and not much sign.

Then I caught one and there were 7 of his relatives and friends that showed up to check on him shocked

Think I’ve seen more roadkill yotes this year than in past years it seems like along the interstate.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

If you take out the local coyote, they don't answer the howls, the neighbors will come over and see why, or hunt the area

I think three pups on the farm I got ten coyote on.
Parvo could be it, too
More people are thermal hunting I guess, I wondered if it could be the pups fall for it sooner

That's surely possible, something like that hit a few years ago, no pups for two years

I think a lot of is cycles but I have also heard that thermals are tough on a population especially if they’re hunted while the pups are still milking.

I trap and thermal hunt. I’ve knocked them back, but far from getting them all. About the time I think I’ve made a serious dent, others start showing up on camera. Got permission (asked) on 5K acres that’s trapped by a professional trapper to thermal hunt anything with 4 legs that ain’t a deer or horse. On top of that I’ll be getting paid. Next Summer will be better when the pups start acting crazy. I’ve killed more just riding and scanning, then using knowledge of the land and wind direction to stalk within shooting range. Calling works really good late summer (learned that from guys on here). Pup distress during that time will have the entire pack coming in.

Coyotes spotted that I can’t kill get a trap placed the next day. If he traveled it once, they’ll travel it again. After a trap is placed I don’t even go in that area to scan.

I've found setting up one good spot in a township is about right, I will catch the local ones and the neighbor coyote come to see why they don't howl back.
It's normal to get visits after the locals are dead
And one guy once wrote he thought up to a third of the coyote caught were traveling through.
I don't know if it's that high, but some of the coyote are probably moving through
