They may not see color, but they can see contrast. I try and blend, if you are in timber scatter a few pine needles over it, or some grass if you are in grass, not enough to freeze and hinder the trap, but enough to blend your waxed dirt to look like the surrounding ground. If it is going to snow over it, I don't bother, then there is nothing to freeze up on you.

I just reread where you said dirtholes, you can either try and lightly sift some native dirt over your waxed dirt to blend, or you can scatter some of your waxed dirt over the rest of the freshly dug dirt to blend that way. Just try and not have a trap bed sized spot that sticks out like a sore thumb, some coyotes won't care, but you'll get some refusals from that.

You can do = research on dogs. A dog see's in a = Blue ~ Green spectrum. So no like deer. The rods in their eyes are OR see similar contrast. Research what colors a dog see's

Coyotes don't see color like humans do. They do see contrast and textures (similar to looking at a black and white photo) as bearcat2 said above. Blend your sets as best you can is the best we can do with what we have on hand to work with.

Sometimes it won't matter what your set looks like; if it's hunger enough, its' blood is running hot, and/or it's young or stupid. Other times if your set looks out of place there ain't enough curiosity in that animal to draw it anywhere near your set. If you are curious to know what the animal sees in your set, take a b&w photo from the animals perspective (height of the eyes and distance from your set).

Good luck to ya!
