Governor Walz is certainly no friend to trappers and hunters. He happily signed a bill to ban turtle trapping that had no biological basis which was passed by a DFL Majority House and Senate The DNR supported this bill also. The bill was pushed by the same out of state group (Center for Biological Diversity) that has sued various states over Lynx issues. There were about 18 commercial trappers left, and the position was that we were devastating the resource. I fully believe that the DNR hates anyone making money off the renewable natural resources of this state.
All of our legislative problems stem from DFL control of the Legislature and the Governor's office. I am not at all hopeful of a Republican governor or a Republican majority House and Senate happening anytime soon, if ever, in Minnesota. National news talks about Minnesota as the California of the Midwest. This is an accurate assessment of the current political climate in this state.
How many DFL members of the Minnesota House and Senate fully support wolf trapping and hunting in Minnesota? How many fully support fur trapping and stand in opposition to more restrictions on trappers.?
I agree with everything you've said, especially the turtle trapping. I have trapped turtle for years. There are no shortages of snapping turtles in most areas of MN. I mostly trapped the Mississippi river. You can buy a recreational turtle trapping license which allows you 3 snapping turtles. I've had as many as 7 snappers in one trap. We have an anti hunter, trapper, and anything to do with sportsmen activities with goofy Governor Walz. He is the worst MN governor in my lifetime. Sad part is that the Twin Cities controls who wins in the elections with their overwhelming democrat population. Walz loses big in the non-metro areas other than Duluth.
