Do they wear out or just unproductive? They wear out after a few years ..... Mostly the leading edge that gets eroded by rain and hail. Most folks don't realize that the tips of those blades are just below the speed of sound. It does not look it because of the large diameter. But that is one of the limiting factors of the efficiency of wind turbines.

Being hollow, and cut up, i recon they would not float. Wonder why they couldn't be stacked on a freighter and dumped in the ocean. Seems they would make a wonderful artificial reef. There are some pretty deep holes out there. No one would ever know. unless they'd melt ... or something ? ? ? ? Between the layers of glass fiber epoxy, there is closed cell foam to give it form. We did not try it , but they probably float
