What kind of drills are you guys using on your dirt hole augers? I have an auger but our 15 year old craftsman drill is tired and doesn't have the oomph to do it. I have Dewalt batteries and chargers so that would be a plus but what brand, drill, etc do you guys like?

Thanks in advance!

Hammer drill works best. Can use a regular drill driver. Impact doesn't work...at all

Get a rotary hammer instead of just a hammer drill if you will be using it in frozen conditions. Even a little frost of 1-3" will make a difference in how fast you can get through the surface. You will not find a dirt hole auger that will fit the Rotary Hammer so you will have to make one on a rotary shaft (which is different than a drill shaft). I have a DeWalt but Milwaukee is what the construction guys are turning to due to guarantee. ..................the mike

I have a dewalt but that is just what I had when I started trapping

Check the cutting edge on the auger also, they get dull and it makes a difference

I'm wanting a SDS+ 2" auger, nothing seems to be available so I guess the only option is to buy the adapter and build one.

Regular 20V drill but a hammer/drill would be nice at times.

I have several Ryobi and Rigid hammer drills and a bunch of batteries with a few chargers. I have been using them for as long as I can remember. Get a large enough volt outfit to do the job. 18>24 volt is about what we use most of the time.

I use a normal $89 Dewalt drill. I made my own auger with an old 1 1/2 inch hand auger wood bit welded on bout a 10 inch price of 3/8 steel rod. I know it's only an 1 1/2 inch but it easily can make a 3+ inch hole if need be.

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

Harbor Freight brand "Bauer", is a very good tool for the money.

What volt Dewalt batteries do you have? I’d buy whatever fits that. I use a 20v Dewalt Hammer Drill. I don’t deal with frozen ground, I deal with cement like clay during the warmer months. I’m slowly eliminating that by going to drags.

My dewalt rotary hammer just bit the bullet after six years of HARD use.

I always said if I didn’t already own dewalt I’d have gone with Milwaukee. I don’t know why, six years of abuse on the dewalt, I got my money out of it.
