Awesome, best fox sets always connect with something. Just not always what we want. Possums love mine

I hope the set produces again. He chewed his foot off under the jaws so there was blood. I took a bunch of leaves and tried to wipe the blood off the trap… I hate when they do that. Never thought blood mattered at a set caught plenty of canines and coons in the same sets . Catch circles are great attractants to all predators

Great coon, around here it's hard to get one without yellow on the back of his neck unless it's about all black.

Here, our Coon don't seem to get " yellowed up " till mid, later winter. Nice catch. Love your enthusiasm!

But I’m still excited. I wish my Pap was here to see me! We were best pals! I was always in the garage with him; cracking walnuts in a vise. Cooking hot dogs on foil on top the pot bellied stove. He trapped as a young man but by the time I showed interest he was long gone.

As for skinning I always did them fresh. Of course having a meat market they needed to be processed promptly. Going to set some coon traps for the grandkids to check this weekend. I'll post a picture of a yellow coon. lol

Everyone says to leave coon overnight and let them “firm up”. I’ve seen that to be true with the fat. Strange how that works. So the big old cow is still in the bed of my truck and I’ll tackle it after work tomorrow…
Put the in the freezer for about 45 min. to firm up

i prefer to peel them when warm,or at least subtle then put the pelt in the fridge or freezer to firm up for fleshing.

Nice coon and yes Moyles does a great job imo Are you keeping it for a wall hanger or do you have other plans for it?

Just a wall hanger! I would bunch it in with my others, I have five in a corner strung up with a zip tie. (I love the look of a BUNCH of fur). But I think this one deserves to be set apart. For now I’m having a hard time putting it down. Luxuriously soft!

Elsmasho82 That a pretty coon for sure. On my line I have noticed that the coon have small pool of genetics. I had one farm where I would catch one or two black raccoons every fall. On another farm they would be some almost red. So if you set regularly in that location. Is a good chance you may catch more in that color pattern.

"Never Forget Which Way Is Up!" Thanks Mac! One year I caught one with a sorta piebald face. I’d love a cinnamon one!
