True boxes work but like you said it’s a numbers game. I prefer precision trapping over shotgun trapping.

Nice looking cat some of those nice rosette backed cats don't have the real nice clear bellies,I like the rosette's back cats.Muskeg I agree it's been longer than 10 years since I set a 220 for cats, and even then I didn't set very many.Scott you didn't jinx the marten boxes warm weather lots of food and the few locations that we were in,proven spots over the years don't have the population that they have had other years. Not too many people can say there first bobcat was a giant 41 lb cat.My first was a 26 lb female with a casty belly also.

Boy it was a warm one today, truck read 54 degrees at one point. We saw two wolves today on the line as well, thankfully neither were in our traps. We managed 5 grouse and 1 marten today, it was a good day. Well I guess any day you get to spend on the line with your father is a good day!

Pulled all my traps and rebaited/freshened up half of dads, maybe his last marten will be waiting for him in the morning if not should be Saturday for sure. I’m headed home in the AM will try to beat the weather that’s coming, excited to see the wife and kids. I’m proud to admit I’m on the same pair of clothes since last Friday (except for the socks and underwear), bachelor life has been good to me.

My absolute favorite trapping experience is the jingle of a trap chain as you follow a cat on a drag. Love seeing those spots in a cedar tree.

Kinda of getting an itch to get serious on a cat or two. Might burn a couple days off work between the holidays and see what happens.

Ok…the above post is not me or mine, I just turned the pic so it could be viewed easier. Apparently the poster of the pic took down the original.

Had a banner day on the line today. Have the one young guy and his father that have been coming up for several years, and a new young man that came up for the first time this year. We have been doing ok each day and started the day with 5 marten. By 11am we had two more marten, three beaver, a muskrat, and 2 grouse. He said, "This day couldn't get any better!". I told him that it could get incredibly better. He had set a set along side of the road yesterday with a 550 and just a bit of beaver tail oil. We were at his set 15 minutes later, and a 31 pound tom was waiting for him! Made my day to watch a grown man jumping up and down. That is why I love to take new guys out.

Tell you what, the day I catch my first fisher or cat will be the day whoever is near me will probably see a grown man jumping up and down, well as long as it’s early enough in the day!

Thank's for sharing your picture's and your time helping others to enjoy the world of trapping and the great outdoors.P.S. It's not too often your checking traps in Mid Dec without a jacket!Congrats again.......

Rick,
Ain't that the truth! On both counts. Seeing him catch his first marten and his first cat is something I will remember.
Shirtsleeve weather mid December is truly a bonus.
