We used to call Sage Hens B52's
I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

Woodcock is more akin to a M16A2 antipersonnel mine aka "bouncing betty" mine. Popping up to about head height from directly under foot. You ain’t kidding! Used to hunt over some Brittany’s when I was teenager. Had one point and we went in to flush and nothing. The other dog had moved on and so did we. I looked back and that dog hadn’t moved. I called and he still didn’t move. I was now getting a little ticked and went in and grabbed it by the muzzle. When I grabbed him a dang buzzsaw went off right in front of that dogs nose and hit the brim of my hat and scared me almost to the point of needed and new pair of skivvies. I swear that dog looked at me with disgust and rolled his eyes before running to catch up with the other dog. We eventually killed one of those little birds before the day was over and still argue to this day as to who hit it.

Good exercise for the old ticker, lol. Quit that nonsense when I gave myself the worst "frog" ever. Threw up the 20ga single shot on one zig zagging through the trees and touched it off about an inch away from my bicep. Who says 20s don't kick, lol.

Those birds have built in radar and terrain avoidance processors in them somewhere. If government developed them, they came straight out of Area 51.

Where's the quail fall in there Never hunted them but I've heard they're hard to hit. They are and they aren't. An individual bird comes up head high or so and sails off a a few dozen to a hundred yards and sets down. BUT, a covey rise might have a dozen doing it all at once going in all directions all originating from the same point. That and they aren't much bigger than a tennis ball. Think noisy explosion and you've got to pick out just one bit out of the chaos and disregard the rest.

Where's the quail fall in there Never killed one. It takes too long to pick my gun back up every time a covey all jumps up at once.

Where's the quail fall in there Isn't there a small chopper the vets call the little bird? Quail are my fav bird to hear, hunt, or serve for supper.

Does the spruce grouse come close to the Spruce goose? lol
Bryce Spruce grouse are protected here and I don't see many of them. I can't say I've ever seen one fly.
