In my "limited" experience they all stink like a gut shot fawn, gender aside.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Bought some rams for badgers to try it was like defusing a bomb messing with them, I don’t sweat messing with skunks but that Ram seemed like accident waiting to happen.
Nice catch

Yea, if you stay out of the bite zone, no worries. But the old ones are nutz! I hope the lights out/Senniker systems get legalized here next season, got a couple dozen ready to go in the shed. The ram was hanging upside down from a branch to get the height with an untreated snare. I knocked it last night, I’ll give it another shot this morning before I bring it back into the garage to skin. I’ll have to extend this old board unless I can get a proper one, this one’s 59” long so the legs wouldn’t get pinned all the was for a nice shape.

Just add some boards to extend that old board. There is nothing special about that wolf, it will be used for trim if it goes to the auction by the buyers International Fur on Dawson Rd Wpg is also a buyer so consider taking it to them.

Bought Dans split board from Rat River Supplies. Said Mel made it. Didn’t stink at all really, just kinda like death I guess. Rough skinned and it’s in the freezer now, I’ll finish the feet & head Saturday. Shoulda kept skinning the head at least this evening, going to have a lot of blood to clean. I guess a spray bottle with soapy water and wipe until clean?

Really? I didn’t know they bought fur. I figured this would be a good one to taxidermy skin, no big deal if I mess up. I’d rather learn on this one than something decent.

I remember talking with one of the old federal trappers up around Roseau, MN area at a rendezvous one winter. He said he weighed EVERY wolf he caught over the years and I believe the number that made triple digits on the scale was in single digits out of a lot of wolves. I really wish I remembered the exact percentage, but I’m almost positive it was around 2 or 3 percent. Happy trapping! ScottW

I’ve shot some big coyotes. They look very different. Tracks, paws, heads, ears….size. This one’s pretty young, but by fall, 6 months after birth they out size a yote easily. Like every animal, by the time you get it to the sleigh it’s doubled in weight. I understand by the pics some may be confused. But the difference between the two is easily evident when you see one.

The biggest on the scale coyote I’ve ever seen was upper forties. During the short couple year seasons in Minnesota one wolf I helped skin and prep was a female that was within a couple pounds of yours Jake. They could be twins. Coloring not the greatest fur, ears, legs….
And lord the stench.
That is the one where for three nights maybe four there was a terrifically big wolf track just into the woods circling the place. Never saw the wolf, new tracks each morning.
