This one came out on the bank while I was tending traps. I'm guessing he's around 45 to 50lb

too small , let it grow
when the tail is 12" wide you know it tips the scale at 100#
look at the one that Dwayne Lazar 100# got on the web page of a trap supply company Damm beaver in Sask.

From my research, beaver weight is relative to distance traveled from whatever motorized vehicle is used. If you can drive up to it and only have to carry it 50 yards or less it’s generally 20-30#. If the distance to said vehicle is .5 miles or less it’s generally 30-40#. If 1 mile or under it’s 40-60#. Now if you’re more than a mile back by foot then caught beaver will be anywhere between 60-100# and you’ll catch multiple beavers on one check at that weight.

Wow. So what happens if one’s alive in the trap for some reason?

That doesn't count you trapped it. That's a dispatch. You just can't stake out by a dam and pluck them off when they come out

That’s interesting. Down here they’re nuisance animals and no season. I think anything short of dynamite is legal.

We also can not set traps within 15ft of a dam or hut.
We can only set up to 10 traps only 2 of those can be body grip

Per impoundment, or per person at any given time?

The stupidest thi g about the beaver laws is you can set with 15ft if the dam or hut but if it's in a river or even pond and they have a bank hole with no hut you can slap a 330 right there

My part of NY with no otter season you cannot set a trap within 15 fet of a dam, house or den. And we have trigger restrictions [Linked Image]

Nothing wrong with having the trigger way off to the side & tight together, I do it a lot more often now that I know the reasons.
