[quote=3 Fingers]Boco do your lynx have fleas?

They didn’t until Boco handled them…. In all seriousness Bob, they are fantastic! Just like all the pelts you process. You are truly talented.

Most cat trappers use borax. What is price difference with feet on and off for you?

Depends on how they will be used, how you market them and to who.
To the fur market,no difference with feet on or off, they dont grade feet for garment fur.
For taxidermy they would be near worthless without feet.
I send some to the tannery with feet and claws on,some with feet and no claws and some without feet since that is the way some people want them.
I charge a bit more for the ones with feet/claws on because of the extra work around 50 bucks difference.

Can't explain it? Putting up fur is easy once we get used to doing it but...
For some reason, yours always look so perfect.
Why?

so if you sent them to FHA with feet on you would not get anymore money? I would think that adding feet would increase the price on a below average cat.

I dont know,I scrape them pretty clean to keep them as grease free as possible, catch them after freeze up in all lethal sets,so they dont beat themselves up at the set.I also give them a brushing after turning.I also make my own forming boards to fit my section of fur.
Just some guesses B+B

Unless you tell the graders at FHA to set them aside as a complete skin handled for taxidermy they will just get graded into the garment assortment.

No I dont tumble the dried fur.
I do tumble tanned skins.
I have tumbled some dried skins that I entered into the Fur handling competitions in the past at FHA.

Interesting. Cats here loaded w fleas - ppl put them in garbage bags for a few hrs and spray a bit of Raid. Them things get on you and a couple days of itching for sure. Same with our rabbits here on times for fleas get on you. The flea looks the same for the rabbit and the lynx. Talk to the guys up Newfoundland and no fleas on rabbits or lynx. Our marten have fleas that can get on you too. Noticed that in northern Ontario in late fall 1983 with fleas on the marten that would get on you.

The lynx and rabbit fleas are black and look alike - same flea? The marten fleas are brown.

3fingers I take it your cats have fleas?

Go figure all this. North of 50 might have some clues about it all.
