Good to see all these new folks interested in trapping.
Most of us on here are 50 plus....many much older. We are dying out as a natural resource user group....almost as fast as the fur market drops....

Unless trappers start taking kids trapping then yes it will fade away. Trappers organisations need to focus more on educating kids about trapping and getting them interested. Maybe a mentor program? The Alaska trappers organization is going into schools and doing trapping clinics which is a good idea.

There was a thread on here a while back where many of us posted our age.
I'd guess, after several pages of posts, that about 75% to 80% of us were well over 50.

Most of us on here are 50 plus....many much older. We are dying out as a natural resource user group....almost as fast as the fur market drops.... Agreed!!! Most new folks assume my username foxkidd44 that I’m under the age of 18,,, instead of being north of 50.of course my wife would argue that I really am a kid lol. It’s really really nice to see newer folks finding a home here and educating themselves on proper and ethical trapping techniques. Each and every one of us were beginners too at some point.

My kids started trapping with me when they were five, it's been a lot of fun watching them progress through the years. Once they were able to make their own sets and connect with an animal they really started to get excited. You could see the pride in their eyes. Now they are trapping and skinning their own fur ( 11 and 13 ) and when the fur buyer slaps that check in their hand they are grins from ear to ear.

In this day and age of money for everything, it's difficult to keep most anyone interested in trapping, most trap for funding, thats going the end as well with auctions fading away and many states not having any fur auctions
Difficult to warrant time and effort the costs for fun as well in a fuel related endeavor, can't blame people for not keeping young ones interested, do blame them for not trying though.
What could change it ? A need for it first of all, a desire to have fur used for more other purposes more often than just for show, peoples right to have it if they so choose with out the worry of some one running their mouth off at them or destroying personal property for a news article.
These things need to be worked into the learning as well, so young people know how to deal with zealots who wish to control everything every one else does they don't like
Its a rough road of hoe to deal with, besides the smiles for a reward when the kids make their first catch !!
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !
