Joe Dinitto is an Adirondack hunter and one of the best deer trackers alive. He carries a 760.

Larry Benoit was probably the best that's ever lived. He carried a 760 in .30-06.
Remington came out with a commemorative to honor him.

I would bet that yours is a Basketweave pattern. Remington did make a left handed version of that for a while. RH gun with a cheek plate and safety for a lefty. They would still throw hot brass down your shirt color though.

Consider this, the 760 was discontinued around 1980. And replaced by the 7600. In some cases, these older rifles will need to be completely stripped down and cleaned if it hasn't already been done One of my 760 Carbines was manufactured in 1973. The original factory grease eventually turned into a tar like substance and the pump became increasingly harder to work until it finally locked up. Then complete disassembly was required.

mine may have been cut down before I bought it if it was they did a very nice job of it , there would have been plenty of years for that to have happened

Rem made a bunch of their 700 rifles 13 3/8 for a while

really around 12 is generally considered youth and 13-14 is common for adult guns

I just went back and looked at this thread. One thing I remember about that gun, the 760, was how easy it was to carry. It seemed to just lay in your hand and carry balanced, just right.

My wife has her dads Model Six, 30-06, with a monte carlo stock. Really dark finish. I think bull-pap was the camp cook and may have spent his time looking out the camp widow looking for deer.

They look like they would be,30/06 or 308 in the carbine style is what I am really looking for. Since rifles weren't deer legal here in Indiana until recently (they aren't legal on public ground, except straight wall cartridge), used rifles aren't easy to find. Any recommendations for locating one?

I hunt with the 760 Gamemaster that my dad bought from sears catalog in 1953, that makes it 70 years old this last fall. He shot his first deer with it that year when less than 20,000 were shot here in Wisconsin. He was a very good shot with open sights, but me not so much. so I put a scope on it in 1988. I told the gun shop that it would have to be be drilled and tapped, but they told me all 760s were drilled and tapped, but when I picked it up they said ya you were right. Cant tell you how many times I have thought about dad on opening day and a buck shows up while I am holding that gun,guess it doesnt get any better than that

I bought the 7600 carbine in 30 06 for bear hunting in western NC . It was nice to carry, it had a terrible trigger before I had it worked on and it rattled my teeth every time I shot it. Wish now it was a .243 .

I have my dads 740, 30-06 he bought new. That and a Hornet was the only CF rifles he ever owned ... or needed.
His last shot through it killed a deer in 98. Hasn't been shot since. I think about taking it out for some killing, but always put it back in its place.

I had a first year 35 Rem. I struggled with open sites and couldn’t bring myself to drill and tap so I sold it. I bought a buddies 7600 in 30-06 this fall that he inherited when his dad passed. I used it to take a nice whitetail this fall.

My youngest son just shook his head, “of all the rifles in the safe, you are using that one”. I wanted to prove a point to my buddy hoping he would buy it back in memory of his father.

built on a scaled down model 11-48 shotgun chassis I recall hearing the 28 ga size is the same as the 740/760 receiver

carries like a shotgun , fast to the shoulder like a shotgun , but shoots a rifle bullet.

Remington always was in to the pumps John Pederson designed the model 14
it was a tube feed

the pump rifle was always a good idea but always seemed to loose on price point to the Lever

the 14 used a tilting bolt lock up like a shotgun
the 760 uses a rotary bolt for high pressure cartridge
