Put skunk fat in a jar. Let it sit a few months. I remove the the still full glands first before doing anything else to limit the skunk stink odor

Render over a slow fire and pour off the oil.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Anyone ever use a crock pot set on low, slow cook &
use a turkey baster to siphon off the rendered oil ?

I just did this and when I left it stand overnight to
cool off I had a top layer of golden oil and a
bottom layer of cloudy paste-like grease in my
mason storage jars.

Do I attempt to further render this cloudy paste-like
liquid after siphoning off the golden oil top layer
or should it be disgarded ?

thanks for any helpful informational responses.

That depends upon what end result product that you wish. The lighter weight oil will rise while the heavier materials will sink. The clean pure rendered fat will be a relatively neutral odor product.

You can determine that yourself. Some like the top run oil only for their specific use. I prefer straining the total fluid volume to get a rich dark colored oil collectively and separating any non-essential material solids from the final screening process. The latter oil collecting process will have a much more robust odor and the most desired for my purposes.

I don't just want the top run oil properties in general. I want all of the related fatty acid odor components of the rendering process. Once again. It depends upon your needs and wants for a particular end result use and function of the product.

How much top oil do you get from a gallon of fat?
