What I shoot is no longer made. I shoot Remington 25 gr HP's out of my 17 Rem. I bought them by the thousand and have enough to last me. 3993 fps out of my rifle. I could push them harder, but on a good day I could shoot a touching group at 100 yards off a bench. .17 bullets are pretty close when they touch. I never shot any of the Vmax. I shot a fair amount of Hornady 25 gr HP too. One thing to keep in mind is the small diameter neck will build presser fast when increasing or decreasing powder charges.

.17 vmax are garbage for anything bigger then a coon in my opinion. Specially if pushed fast. Your best bet is to find Hornady 25 hp. Even they are getting hard to find. If you find some, buy LOTS!

20 grain Vmax is a real killer. Lights out on coyotes. 15 grain Berger is another favorite. No longer made. Sorry buddy but that is 100% opposite from my experience?

So dies , barrels and upper parts are all on the way , every thing else is just gonna be converted from my existing.223/5.56 stuff. Need bullets though, what's eveyone favorite.17 cal bullets ? Seem the 25gr Vmax is a good one In the 17 world, it's what you can find. If you should find some.... And If they shoot well for you.... Then go scour the internet and buy every one you can find.

I watched that last video you posted and if I shot a coyote and it ran like the one at 1:20 I would feel like something failed. Most the coyotes I shot with a 17 Rem went down and the only thing that moved was the tail spinning in a circle, if I made a decant hit. Very seldom would a coyote move from where it was when I shot. You will be amazed what a small fast bullet will do. Read up on P O Ackley shooting one. He shot pretty much everything in North America with a 17. I would hunt deer here with it if it was legal. I shot a caribou with my 17 rem when I lived in AK.

I don't know if you can find any of these but Berger makes a little .17 which has ok reviews. Availability of quality J4 jackets has been the major issue with supplying the heaver (25+ grain) .17 projectiles. I prefer a hp or sp over any of the available v-max bullets for put-down performance on fox and coyote. If I wanted to chase coyotes, I would use a trap and drag.

a GOOD bullet in .17 is like magic.
Wolfie, best advice is to find a person with a stash of Hornady 25s and buy them.
Good chance you'll burn out your barrel chasing out other bullets with a slim chance of finding them again.

bucksnbears, what did you shoot for bullets? I have a couple boxes of Sisk bullets, a box of 20gr sp and a box of 30's. I got them in the mid 1980's. I pick up a couple boxes of 17 bullets at a auction too. It seems like they were 30gr. I can not remember the make of them, or where I put them.

Mark, I have had 2, .17_.204 s built. My main coyote calling rifle was built to shoot Mr Chan Nagels fantastic 30 grain bullets. Pure MAGIC! the other one was for the fantastic Berger 25s. Unfortunately, Mr Nagel has passed on berger no longer makes .17 bullets. Still got a small stash of both but will not sell them.

I could remember you had 17-204s from talking to you years ago. What kind of MV were you running. I should dig around and see if I can find the two boxes I got at that auction. Odds are good I will never shoot them. I shot a lot of those Rem bullets and different powders working up loads.

Mark, the one shooting the 25s are around 4350. The one shooting the 30s about 4200. Have you tried the 30s in your .17 rem? Most factory barrels are 1_ 10 twist and shoot 30s poorly. I'll take the 30s if you want to pass them on?

That is scooting right along. My 17 Rem is a 700 BDL. It has been glass bedded and a trigger job done by David Miller in Tucson. I never have shot any 30's. I ran/hunted with a guy that had a custom ammo shop in AZ. He was the one that got me started on the 17 Rem. He loaded ammo five days week. He had a 17 Rem, so we worked up loads that would shoot out of both his and my rifle. That way we could pass ammo back and forth and not wonder where it shot. We called a lot together. We did it enough we know what was going on with out talking about it. There was a lot of coyotes and lots of country. I will try to track those two auction boxes down. I am guessing they are in the shop by my gun show pile. They were on an auction I was buying gun show stuff to resale off of. I seem to always skim a little off the top before I head to the shows.

This above-my findings as well-Hornadys work great if you can find them-I buy everything I find-.17 Remingtons stone coyotes dead-unless you do a Texas heart shot then no. But for calling they are the best-and most the time you can see the kill in your scope
