Yup, my radial arm is the most dangerous power tool I have and I am very scared of it. It was bought over 30 years ago and I still have all my fingers (so far) because fear brings respect.

I lost 3/4 of a fingernail doing something stupid on a table saw, but the tool that scared me more was a lathe. This particular lathe had an off switch near the floor and between the time I realized something was hinky and bent over to reach the switch a 3 foot long 4x4 came off the lathe through the space where my face had just been. That was way to close for comfort.

You need to respect woodworking tools…not be afraid of them! Being afraid of something nearly guarantees an accident.

Interesting you all saying radial arm saws. I am far from experienced but always feel safer using it than a table saw.

To avoid table saw kickbacks, make sure your using a riving knife and anti-kickback guards. I often see saws equipped with one or the other and often neither.

I was never afraid of your average power tools till an angle grinder cutoff blade blew up and almost took my finger off....boy did that happen fast!, lol

I get nervous just looking at that thing now.

I worked almost 40 years for a lumber company. The last 30 years were in a door and trim shop where l operated machinery, saws, and various other power equipment on a daily basis. Luckily I still have all my fingers, but seen a lot of things happen that could've ended badly. I interacted with a lot of construction people. Whenever someone had a bandaged hand the first thing I would ask was if it was a table saw accident and 9 out of 10 times it was.
