Are your traps clean inside, and around the spring on the outside? Old bait and mud may be slowing the trap down just enough to prevent solid catches.
I'm also wondering if your filing made the traps too sensitive. I've never modified a DP other than adding another swivel to the chain and have had no problems.
I suppose it's also possible you've just got some weak springs for some reason.

I don't ever remember losing a coon in a Lil Griz. I think I lost only one in a Duke once. I would think you would have to have your DP set with a hair trigger for a mouse to set it off. I've had all the bait gone sometimes, trap empty, but not set off. I would guess that was a mouse.

Remember as a kid we played army and you gave up the fort so the other side got it? Of course you don't. Little kids aren't that stupid.

Started catching mice in them when I got some push-pulls.

Are they push pull triggers. If so they might be to sensitive and you might be putting to much bait in where they don't get a chance at getting to the trigger? I havent had any trouble with DP's either but only been using them a few seasons.

All mine were pull only.

Never had anything pull out of my dukes wolf creeks or foxpros maybe didn't trap enough samantha didn't have issues before either As my traps are all older mayhaps the new ones are weaker or the snow and maybe coons wet feet or the NEW traps are to sensitive and go off before the foot is commited

Like suggested earlier, put a game cam set to video on the one that seems to have the most issues

I suspect something setting them off without a paw down the hole
I can't see how a coon could pull out of one of the FB DPs I have, at the minimum I think you would have some toes

Usually I do cat food on bottom with a marshmallow on top, I try to stay away from anything that could be a liquid and freeze.

Yea, I’m good about checking them every morning and even if I didn’t get a hit I check that bait, mud, etc. isn’t clogged up in there, and whenever I pull traps I give them a good clean. I may need to check the springs then, I find I have more issues with dukes than any of my other dp, so it does make me curious if the powder coating especially in fresh wet snow is making it slippery.

Yea I may need to do that. I don’t have any of my own but if this continues it may be worth the purchase for sure. Thank you.

I've had pull outs with Duke DP's, on a limited basis- I always try to look for correlations and try to understand the "why" when I have misses or situations like this. I believe the two largest contributors to DP pull-outs are:
1) Leverage for the coon- Sapling, tree, brush, etc. leverage points where the coon can grab and pull.
2) Wet Fur: Think about lubricating a ring on your finger when it's stuck, lubricity aids in the coefficient of friction allowing movement.
If I'm trapping lowland conditions or rain/snow with DP's I stake with Berkshires and/or Duckbill stakes- this will eliminate it.
Yes- there can be other contributors but these are the two I have found in pull-out conditions and you had both.
