I don't ever remember losing a coon in a Lil Griz. I think I lost only one in a Duke once. I would think you would have to have your DP set with a hair trigger for a mouse to set it off. I've had all the bait gone sometimes, trap empty, but not set off. I would guess that was a mouse.
Remember as a kid we played army and you gave up the fort so the other side got it? Of course you don't. Little kids aren't that stupid.

Every year I usually have a few dog proofs that are sprung with bait gone and no raccoon. Next time, Try using only COONDAGGERS & you won't have that problem !!!

Started catching mice in them when I got some push-pulls. All mine were pull only.

I've had pull outs with Duke DP's, on a limited basis- I always try to look for correlations and try to understand the "why" when I have misses or situations like this. I believe the two largest contributors to DP pull-outs are: 1) Leverage for the coon- Sapling, tree, brush, etc. leverage points where the coon can grab and pull. 2) Wet Fur: Think about lubricating a ring on your finger when it's stuck, lubricity aids in the coefficient of friction allowing movement. If I'm trapping lowland conditions or rain/snow with DP's I stake with Berkshires and/or Duckbill stakes- this will eliminate it. Yes- there can be other contributors but these are the two I have found in pull-out conditions and you had both.
