Anyone know what this guy is? We think he may be a grebe? Someone found him unable to fly or walk and surrendered him today. He is going to a wildlife rehabilitation facility this evening! He’s a feisty little cuss

so when they drop them off like that they lay a couple Bens on the counter to help or they just expect you to work for free?

I believe most grebes need water to take off. Here in Utah we often have grebes land on roads in the winter thinking they are rivers. They can’t get the running start to take off. Don’t know where they picked this one up, but maybe?

We do ask for donations and we also have them sign a surrender form. Too many idiots want wildlife treated and then they want the animal back to keep as a pet

Additionally, most clients expect us to care for THEIR own pets without them paying.

I was told the person found it NEAR water but he cannot even stand up. I have never seen one before nor heard of them in our area. He must be passing through!

I was going to mention that, their feet are far back on the body , for swimming, not land usage. They can stand at a leaning angle to trudge up onto a nest, then plop down . That's also why they need much more take off room than a bush plane to become airborne.

Loons are the same way.
