I don’t agree with the gov’t mandating certain vehicles. I also don’t agree with the various “facts” that have been made up on this thread.
I have a coworker with an electric vehicle. Guess what, he parks it in his somewhat heated garage. It charges from 0% to 100% for approximately $1.80. Since we are all proponents of the free market, how does this not pencil out? The range in the summer is about 200 miles. I’ll have to ask him about the winter. They generally use it around town and shorter trips. I am curious how this fits into the mantra “EVs are not practical for cold climate areas”?
Price a corolla and tesla of the same year. Them look at mileage. Then use the same mileage for each vehicle and each "fill up".
How long will it take to even out an EV to a gas burner? I have a corolla and it takes about $30-35 to fill up.
average price of 2020 corolla 20k
average price of 2020 tesla 3 36k.
16k difference.
16k/$33= 484 fill ups of gas.
2020 corolla ranges about 440 miles on a full tank. Round that down to 400.
400X484= 193,600 miles to break even with a tesla based on price difference.
But remember, no stopping for half hour to charge. No temperature issues. No $15k battery replacements. Don't forget to "pencil" that one in.
This is why it does not pencil out. Pretty simple math.
On average tesla 3 batteries have to be changed every 8 years. $15k!!!!!
Now add that to 36k and you get............. 51K!!! That is a 31k difference between the corolla and tesla in 8 years. I know I could do a lot more with 31k than waste it on a depreciating asset that can't get me to work when the temps get cold.
EVs are a trick and a scam for suckers. It gives them the ability to virtue signal.
Look at me!!! I am a dumb arse that spends $36k on a vehicle that will need a $15k battery replacement in 8 years just so I can say I am "saving the planet".
Absolutely baffling.
