I would like to see some pictures of your snare sets. I have some luck with them, but some visual pictures would help what other do. Thanks

Thanks!!! Great Pictures!! The problem I have is too many set off snares due to big game. I can set on trails like that but have too many sprung snares.

There’s a fix for that.

Here is one in a dry water way and yotes travel it. Tracks in it all the time. So, there is many spots that get narrow and would be better to hang a snare but I than have big game disturb the snare. Here is a log that crosses the crick and a made shift funnel with snare hung. Would this setup work or not and critic it, what it needs.

I deal with the same thing .
I pattern the big game movement and set the fringe airias.
Some days I have no snairs knocked down and others I will have several.
Example I checked 50 ish snairs yesterday with two popped breakaways from dear and I had three coyotes.
That if fairly typical of most of the airia I'm in.
Those were the only snairs touched exept for a snared and eaten jack rabbit. One of the coyotes was in a snair leaving the rabbit kill.

Are you getting refusals?
If I block trails with feavy fencing coyotes will generally refuse the set .
Just a sprig or two of the natural grass like on the high bank transplanted for fencing.
Also the loop opening needs to be the more inviting than the aria between the snair and the guide or you will get brush buys.

Honestly I would expect the majority of coyotes to just jump right over that. Coons probably wouldn't hesitate but even red fox might refuse that. It looks out of place which is the biggest issue.

^ that is what I'm looking for. I don't know much if any about dog trapping, I dislike everything about trapping them, so know/have very limited experience about it. I'm a water critter trapper. Thanks for your critic.

Remember when you snared rabbits as a kid?,Trail snaring other animals is basically the same as that. For canines, just keep any blocking suggestive when trailsnaring,or better yet fins a natural spot to hang the snare where they are already going thru.
You can get away with more blocking at a jackpot type set(baited)When they are hunting as opposed to travelling they are not as averse to pushing thru brush. Also set snares lower to the ground at a jackpot and a little higher on a trailsnare set.

Thanks Boco. I chopped off chunks up beavah meat and fat and threw on trial on both sides. The frozen meat junks start about 100 feet from hung snare on either side and go for about 50 feet.

That is not a good idea,It would be OK at a jackpot type set up in cover, but not a trail set.At a trail set you dont want the animal balking for any reason. You need him moving along with his head up to intercept him on the trail.

BM, I notice the kill spring is open. Do you find it doesn’t make much difference with it not compressed vs compressed? Something I’ve often wondered. Thanks for the pic, and nice work.

Bushmaster,
That looks like instant lights out. Do you mind sharing what lock you are using?
