There’s a market for coon meat of its fresh and you know where to look. When you could actually sell a coon hide for more than $2, I charged $7 straight run on the meat. Never had a problem selling it. Y'all folks better get the thought of not eating coon meat out of your head. With all the replacement workers spilling across the border it might be all you have to eat. Remove the glands, fat, and add the sweet taters and bbq sauce and it's edible.

I always joked with my family that they are gonna count on me during Armageddon because I’m the only one who can fish , hunt, and trap. But one day you’re right, may have no choice but to eat raccoon! Where are the glands? Like the anal glands or are there ones in the cheek or armpit too?? I’ve heard groundhogs have glands too

I ate coon a couple times in my youth. Always soaked in BBQ sauce and lots of beer consumption was involved. I sold many thousands of coon carcasses into the SE United States. Heckuva market for them down there. This time of year with the playoffs and Super Bowl, it doesn't take long to move them.

Working night shift took a baked coon in to work for lunch at 3am, warmed it up on a hot plate, smelled delicious and everybody that had some said that was some of the best rabbit they ever ate!!!

I wonder how many of those who have stated how bad it is have tried it. It's been year since I've tried it but I remember it tasting just like pulled pork. It was put in crock pot with BBQ sauce after being cooked.

There's a recipe on the wild cooking forum that's pretty good. I wish our resident cook Wolfdog would make a coon cooking thread.
