Since you are trapping for the owners, do they warn you when the grader is coming through? A couple of those look recently graded.

I've buried drags under the traps like that, but in this country if you do it late in the fall you may as well stake it, when the ground freezes up hard that drag isn't coming out with an animal pulling on it. At least you don't have to carry a pick and Maddox to get your drags out when you pull in the winter where you're at.

Bob, I've done like you and toss the drag in the brush and just cover the first few feet of chain, but about a month ago I had wolves spook from some exposed chain five or six feet from the trap, where the snow melted off the chain. Second time I've had trap wise wolves do that. Our coyotes here aren't trapped enough to be trapwise, but I'm guessing Chris may be dealing with some that are pretty wary.

Strange how things differ from area to area state to state....critters learn to associate danger to items....I guess or is it the odors?

Most animals I have worked have seen or smelled old wire fences, posts, nails and other parts. I never saw it as a problem in the country I have worked. Mostly farm / ag., sheep and livestock areas. No doubt some may be suspicious or wary in areas that some may have learned to associate such things as out of place and avoid them. You have to adapt to those conditions when they arise obviously.

ST, any issues on those pebbles or shale/ gravel getting between the jaws and foot when caught.I know for what you are doing it doesn't matter. But for what I do I need a good foot. I often pass up some areas to try and avoid this.Any tip would be helpful. Great pics as always.Thanks.

Bearcat2. Yes I get warning. But over 700 miles of road to maintain here. You just new know where this guy will go next. He is cheap help. Not the greatest operator if you know what I mean.
