That all depends on how well they were made in the beginning. I have some many years old that are as good as new. I keep all of ours in Amber bottles or coated tins in the shade and in a cool environment. Some won't hold well due to the chemicals that were used to develop them.

Many manmade oils are best used in a year or less. Good extracts made with high proof 190 will hold a long time particularly if it was made from a high ratio active to solvent batch. High quality distilled materials will hold long also but are quite expensive.

I have gone to original authentic material powders and paste form products. These will hold forever if stored in airtight containers. Then you can use or work them up as needed. Powders require more thorough blending to ensure good distribution in a product. However, the residual odor is long lasting.

thanks Bob, I just happen to run across several oils in a box I forgot about. Around 10-12 years old, they were in a root cellar.. They still actually smell pretty nice but maybe not as potent as fresh..
