Been doing my own since I was 16...and still do it. That's a lot of years.... Ditto. Started at 16 , because that's when I got my first car , '74 Dodge Charger SE w/440 and a Slap Stik. But.....I bet you started earlier , like me with the lawn equipment I used to make a couple bucks as a kid of 12yo. I was taking care and maintaining about 4 pieces of landscaping equipment that I owned at that age.

I dug a hole to dump used oil in. been using the same one for years. My Dad use to say it comes for the ground, so it can go back in the ground. The country transfer station is only 2 miles away and has a used oil tank so I take mine there. Gotta take trash there anyway.

Mechanic here has a burner/furnace so I take the used oil to him. I worked in a Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in '81 , waste oil furnaces were just getting started and kinda new. The owners of the dealership who were cheap like most on spending money , broke down and coughed up the money for one and crossed their fingers on the substantial investment. It ran out of oil quick and they had to use the original #2 fuel oil furnace for the rest of the winter. In the spring , they bought 2 more oil tanks to store waste oil collected during the warm months. It paid for itself rather quickly , a good investment.

I dug a hole to dump used oil in. been using the same one for years. I took in ten gallons one time and the check in guy tells me it's a 5 gallon per day limit . I said fine I'll dump the other 5 gallons in the river . Sometimes I dump it on the ground under a burn pile of debris I'm about to burn Sounds like you two are a couple of Environmental Rapists !!! w

Been on a farm most my life, always change oil myself. Takes a few minutes on most things and not complicated to do. Guess when you grow up working on a farm you are the mechanic. Have rarely taken anything to anyone to fix.

yes , mostly conventional oil every 3K sometimes it gets closer to 4K
I stock up on oil when there is a sale at farm and fleet or similar
7 dollars for the Napa filter 21042 for mine and 21372 for the wife's keep it written on the plastic under the hood with paint pen a well as wrench size mine is 15mm and the number of quarts 7 for both of them.
ends up running about 30 dollars a oil change , but I get my grease zerts at the same time not many shops still grease your zerts
we did my son's yesterday easy enough to just do it on ramps in the drive way the dump takes the oil when I take trash in a couple times a year
for the lawn mowers the 4 uncles vacuum extractor makes very short work of them suck the oil right up the fill tube then put down fresh oil .
also suck the transmission fluid up the tube and change out about half every couple years that keeps it nice and red

I never change oil on a lawnmower.Just check to see if there is any in it and top it up when needed. I buy the cheap 150 dollar mowers and run them till the wheels fall off, then buy a new one every 7 or 8 years.

Always did my own , but once I got COPD , it just got harder and harder to do myself. Don't like it , but realize it's safer and easier any more to go to 5minute oil change near me.

I change the oil myself in my Toyota Tacoma, about every 25-30,000 miles, whether it needs it or not.
The problem with having nearly any shop do it, is that they always put the high pressure sales job on you, trying to up-sell you something in addition to your oil change. I hate it when they do that.

My log splitter gets an oil change every year that Briggs engine that’s on it is probably 20 years old so I believe in oil changes.

I have a shop for tires and things I don't want to do or don't have the tools for
been going there for 20 years they don't try and up sell me anything , but will ask if I am ready for more wheel weights although the lead ones have bout dried up. I have a couple buckets to smelt
I was that kid 17-18 working in a tire shop years ago , changing oil and tires , sometimes a brake job or exhaust.

Nope, ain't doin it any more. Too big of a hassle getting rid of used oil and crawling around under my truck in the middle of the winter or summer sucks! Unlike you folks who were immediately experts in the art of the oil change world, after performing the task once, I cut my teeth in the oil change industry at my first "real" job when I was 15. I never had an issue with any customers. I figure, most any kid that can wipe their own butt can perform an oil change. That, and if they screw up, their insurance can pay for the new motor. I think a full synthetic oil change costs me about $85. I'm cool with that.

I no longer change my own, when I got my SUV they agreed to change the oil as long as I own the SUV. But before that I always change the oil. That way you know it is done right. I would not let Walmart change the dirt on a worm for me. JMO
