Nasty critters to release. Our Pa season starts Saturday for one week. Only allowed 5 traps. Wish us luck......jk

I’ve caught a lot of foxs and the biggest Reds I’ve ever seen in #11’s. Held a good size yote in one. Sleepycreeks. They will hold about anything that manages to get its foot in there..

I always us a duke 1 1/2, duke 1 3/4 or #2 close jaw. Strong traps. Lots of swivels. My go to front foot beaver trap as well. Everything goes on a drowning wire.

You can find them on the used market. As long as you are buying user traps, like ones with cut chains, etc., and not collector traps, you can find them relatively affordable.

I’m by no means a pro. But I’ve caught quite a few. My favorite?… the one with 4 coils and lots of swivel power. I’ve caught them in four coiled 1 1/2 Sleepy Creeks. I’ll be setting heavy this weekend in and around some duck impoundments as soon as the last youth/Veteran waterfowl day ends. Where the water is deep enough I’ll run some on drowners. I’m gonna set MB 750 laminated close jawed and Sleepy Creek #4 closed jaws. Where it’s not deep enough, and on toilets and crossovers I’ve got some Sleepy Creek 1 3/4 four coils ready to go(biggest closed jaws I can run if not on a drowner). Of course all the 280’s and the few 330’s I’ve got are going for a swim too. I haven’t been able to set much yet this year—that’s about to change…hard push for the next two weeks.

Blake and Lamb or Victor #4 longsprings also work well and Newhouse 4, 14, 41, or 48s, just not as user friendly to set, and I wouldn't set a Newhouse anywhere there might possibly be a thief.

Never used them myself, but I knew an old trapper that trapped a lot of otter and used the #48 exclusively.

Duke 1.5 or 1.75 only because that's what I've caught them in. I feel like with otter you can use anything from a 1.5 or number 11 up to a number 4 the whole trick is having at least three swivels if your not drowning and if your traps aren't four coiled cut the extra coil posts so the chain doesn't get caught and bind up.trapping is all a game of leverage.

I've sold quite a few from #11s but cable restraints are THE BEST option for live market otter.

For general otter trapping, the no bs beaver extreme is extremely effective. [Linked Image]
