Nasty critters to release. Our Pa season starts Saturday for one week. Only allowed 5 traps. Wish us luck......jk

A # 11 double long spring would hold an elephant if he could get his toe in it. Not sure how you would stake it though. Caught both otter and beaver in them, whenever you set an 11 you want to stake for anything because that trap will hold anything. I’ve caught a lot of foxs and the biggest Reds I’ve ever seen in #11’s. Held a good size yote in one. Sleepycreeks. They will hold about anything that manages to get its foot in there..

You can find them on the used market. As long as you are buying user traps, like ones with cut chains, etc., and not collector traps, you can find them relatively affordable.

x2 Blake and Lamb or Victor #4 longsprings also work well and Newhouse 4, 14, 41, or 48s, just not as user friendly to set, and I wouldn't set a Newhouse anywhere there might possibly be a thief.

#48 Newhouse, hands down the best otter foothold ever made. Never used them myself, but I knew an old trapper that trapped a lot of otter and used the #48 exclusively.

I've sold quite a few from #11s but cable restraints are THE BEST option for live market otter.
If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.
