The Ozona Stockman
Jimmy Don McCollum (J.D), 78, passed away on January 2, 2024 in the Brady Hospital after a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer. He is no longer suffering and in the safe arms of his Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior. He was born on October 9, 1945, in Brady, Texas to Bill and Mabel McCollum. He grew up in the London area and graduated from Menard High School.
He married Brenda Bentley in May of 1969 and in August of the same year was drafted into the US Army. He received an honorable discharge due to medical reasons. He and Brenda eventually made their residence in Ozona where they lived over 30 years, and he found a long and prosperous career in the oil field industry.
Upon his retirement they moved to London, Texas and remained there for 23 years. He was able to enjoy hunting, trapping and raising his beloved dogs and horses during this time. They eventually moved to Brady due to his health issues. He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Mabel, brother Billy Ed, sister Naleen and in laws Roy and Connie Bentley and special dogs, Sugar, Max, Banjo, Maggie, Abby and grand-dog Oliver.
He is survived by his wife Brenda and their daughter Regina; his son Johnny (Julie) and grandsons Justin, Josh and great grandson Grayson; his son Jim (Linda) and grandson Aaron; special cousin Pamela Jackson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special dogs Roscoe and Spud.
We would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Allyssa Rieber and the staff at Texas Oncology of Fredericksburg, Dr. Johnson and the staff at Brady Memorial Hospital, and Hill County Preferred Home Health. There will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
