I have quite a bit. I always got a 22 250 along while trapping. Never had any trouble. Got some border patrol stories though.

Border states have always required extra security with the drug traffickers down that way lots of landing strips in the middle of nowhere it can keep you on your toes and that was back in the 80s.

There are county rds that are little more than two tracks and lots of two tracks. Maps Google Earth etc are not accurate. You can get on google earth and draw your own map. You need to scroll down and look for the roads. The lines are often nowhere near the actual road. Cell service is non existent. Contour lines are pretty close on the maps I have seen if you know how to use a compass. I dont think they fly under the radar anymore. Radar has gotten to good. BP even uses blimps attached to ground by steel cable.

What I seen the illegals couldn't care less about trapped animals or traps. Just like anyplace other trappers may steal from you. You are definitely on your own. Won't see a lot of people. Most days none. The boyscout motto "be prepared" is the mind set you want. I wont leave of a morning without a few MRE's and five gallons of water. Carry an axe shovel some basic tools. A come along handi man jack or winch is good. Couple 25 foot chains. Tire plugs and a 12 volt air compressor. Not much to hook a chain to. Use the shovel to bury your spare tire and make it a dead man if you need to pull yourself out. A four foot piece of 4X4 works a lot better.

The green stuff behind the javelina in my pic is called greasewood. You cant believe how fast that stuff will go through and rip a tire sidewall. Mesquite thorns just poke a hole you can plug.

No extra worries on the AZ border.
It is hard to get snuck up on. Most individuals are harmless.
We did have one night they were digging though the trash can by the house for food. Let the dog out and held them for the sheriff.
Couple days later we got a call from the prosecutors office threatening charges against us for detaining them at gun point.
Apparently they have a ACU type lawyer waiting for them in processing for legal help. This happened down by Gila Bend.

Took my dog down to Arizona back in the day first day in the desert he tried to pee on a cactus that breaks off in smaller balls when he lifted his leg. That was intense for a few minutes but he learned quickly.
Stumbled on a turned over truck in the desert one day while checking traps a couple of younger guys shooting at rabbits while driving around was my guess, they hit a pack rat hut gear was everywhere, radio blasting windshield kicked out of the truck. One guy out cold the other one was in shock looked zombie like.
I told him I’d go for help but did not know if I got through to him sat him next to his buddy on the windshield they kicked out. Went to the Sheriff’s office and reported it they followed me back to the accident. When we got there the guy that was out cold was up the other guy was face down. That Sheriff grilled me like I did something wrong for being out in the desert that was unbelievable to me. I packed up and got out of there the Sheriff and ambulance was on their own after that.

I have had border patrol point out locations to me also.
Picked up a hitch hiker in CO back in the 70's. Gave him a ride to town. About 30 miles. Told me he had found peyote. I had never heard of any around there and asked to see it. He had a handful of Cholla flower buds that were green and had no stickers . Said he couldn't believe how much he had found. I never said anything. No clue if they are edible or not.
