Do any of you guys remember Butterbean, who used to win most of the Toughman Competitions? He was fantastic to watch. He's trying to make a comeback.

Once, Butterbean broke one of my best friend's arms, in the final match, in the Cincinnati Toughman Competition. My friend Bobby was a decent professional boxer. I broke his arm sparring, when I knocked him out and he fell poorly on his arm. His arm hurt badly after he came to. Bobby went to a party that night and when a larger woman sat on his lap, the bone separated and slid past itself. Later, he fell out of a tree, while he was on guard duty in the Marines, when he fell asleep. His arm separated again. Butterbean broke his arm in the same place for the third time, when he knocked Bobby down.

Butterbean got in pretty terrible shape, but has improved greatly. He is never going to be at the level he was, but has made a remarkable change for the better. Hopefully he can be an inspiration to us all.

He was awesome!
I worked around Jasper, Alabama two years back. He had his own restaurant there.

Thanks for sharing the video. He's always been a class act, not a bad - like a lot of pro athletes.

I remember watching Butterbean back at the beginning in the Toughman contests and followed him throughout his career. He was a very entertaining fighter. I had no idea he had become wheelchair-bound.

His return to relative health is pretty inspirational. That was a good video, thanks for sharing.

I believe he is sponsoring his own version of toughman contests now. I saw an add locally for one and his name was listed as the promoter. They cut the age off at 45 years or I was going to sign up and win the prize!
