How do you keep snapping turtles from destroying your traps? I tried catching some crayfish years ago and my traps were all bent from a turtle trying to get to the bait.

Here is a link for reading about and building crawfish traps if anyone is interested:

If snapping turtles are damaging traps, the only possible solution I see would be to use heavier wire or modify your trap design so that it's more rigid. The only crawfish traps that I've seen damaged during use were run over by boats or tires because the wire used down here for traps is pretty strong.

I've never had issues with turtle but an otter will mess up a pillow trap pretty good. I would trap the turtles if legal.
