Wolves are still good. It's gotten warm the last couple days so not much longer now. I have shot good wolves onto early May but that's not too common to see

For sure the white foot is a local gene. I've seen it in certain areas with lynx, wolverine and marten. I have an old picture of a marten from the delta with a thin white tip of one foot. The only white footed marten i've seen out there to date. On the line I've trapped the past three seasons I'd say roughly 20% of the marten had at least one white foot. Black muskrats are also a regional gene thing from what I've seen

Thank you Ryan.

I did wonder, and have seen the same ID marks in populations elsewhere. There was a good discussion a long time ago about marten , and this was mentioned. Trapped4ever was a very good source in contributing to the strange markings he found in areas on some of his marten.

I always like this info. Thank you for your photos shared.

Yes same here for wolves good to about April 20. Never mind all those fur primeness charts - auction grader proved that a few times. And you can get a poor one anytime.

Getting there. Last taxidermy wolverine will be done today. Just have to do the ears and flesh it. I skinned and finished 15 wolverine this winter. Almost done.

My goodness. Look at the varied colour tones.

I've always thought a nice one, displayed as a rug on the wall would look wonderful. With the colour of the rug around it a nice contrast to the fur. I saw a badger done that way and it looked amazing. All the tones, from the belly to the back , legs, etc, could be enjoyed, all at once.

Well done, Ryan.

Second half of the wolverine before I sold them last week. Bears are out now. Got me thinking

Earlier in the day I hauled out 52 2x4 and 12 bundles of shingles. As I travelled along I told myself that today I wouldn’t get distracted and I’d just get the load out in one piece. Seriously less than a minute later I crossed these tracks and immediately unhooked my sled and took off after it. Once again I was able to catch sight of it going up the bank without a chance to shoot. I don’t remember any year where I seen so many and got so few shooting chances. I took a picture on the way back to town later on.

40 8 footers and 12 bundles of shingles filled the tub. 12 footers in top. It was all good on the main trail but once it got softer I had to move a few bundles to the back of the sled to get it nice and balanced. Other than that I had to trouble

I might have missed it, but it looks like you’re framing a shack.

Did a few hundred km looking for bear. Lots of small ones but no big tracks yet. Lots of wolves though. I called out the last one while skinning the second one.

Proper roof and a good deck railing at the geese camp Les. Moving out there anytime after Friday for some rat trapping and geese hunting for a couple weeks.

This pack had a couple dead moose Allen . I first seen their tracks chasing a cow and calf moose and I cancelled or maybe just postponed that hunt. Earlier I seen where they had some sheep on the run too. I seen 8 altogether in two separate locations but it was the same pack for sure and I'd say there was 4-5 more that I didn't see judging by the tracks. I didn't really push to get more but if I had I think I would've got 6 or 7. Seen one jet black wolf and thats the only one I don't think I could've got even if I tried my hardest. Good fur on them yet. My 270 sps is kind of becoming my favorite rifle. Black wolf was easily the longest shot I've ever made on a running wolf but I had to walk up to get him off the mountain. Absolutely worth the work though. I'll never forget seeing that wolf tumble

Thank you for the rest of the story on your successful wolf hunt ! I also enjoy shooting my .270 it's a great caliber that's for sure it won't be long before Bobby starts trying to talk you out of it or one like it ha ha

As for the geese we've got some pairs that have returned here already and muskrats are few and far between sadly .

This big weather system pushing out of Texas for the past week should push some snow geese up your way, as long as most of your snow has melted.
Good luck, and remember when when you load shells that they are heading on target, just the finger has to do the rest
