Well, I took my third beaver with a 330 on a castor mound set. Same exact spot, same set up. I tried some Dunlap BIg Pile and they run to it like a kid to a candy store. It's pretty amazing how quickly they head into it. My 2nd beaver hit it 15 minutes after I got back up to the house. I bought an Au Sable beaver knife instead of using my trusty Buck 110. It made a world of difference for me. I didn't poke any holes and got the entire skin off nicely, but I still can't peel the head off without butchering it. Any advice on that area?

Nice going! As far as skinning, just take your time and keep practicing. Don’t run the blade towards the flesh, but cut more towards the skull if that makes sense

I use a different knife on the head. Have used different ones over the years including a Buck 110 and 112, but preferred a smaller knife, have used the old Barlows and Old timers also, I like a small pointed blade for around the head and a rounded, sweeping blade for the body. I usually use about three knives on a beaver, one to split it, Oftentimes the same one to do the head and around the ankles, one to whack off feet and tail (I've went back and forth over the years on removing the tail or not) and one for the rest of it that never gets near bone. Clean skinning, if your knife won't dry shave hair, it's too dull.

I switch to this cheaper Wiebe at the head, I don’t wanna hit bone with the Zeph beaver knife. This Wiebe is actually my favourite knife.

Like others have said; for the head I use a different knife, the reason being is that blade on bone dulls them quickly and I don't want to quickly ruin the edge on my pelting knife. I use a cheap dexter on the head....something that I can align the edge quickly with a few strokes of a steel.

The angle on the strokes I use on the head are almost flat maybe 10 degrees or so, then a little steeper acute angle of maybe 25-30 degrees to not enlarge eyeholes, and then on the nose I go back and forth over the bridge of nose with a swiping sawing motion with a very flat 10-15 degree angle. It's just 20-30 seconds to get it done.

I'm a clean skinner but but since I'm removing lips, nose and ears anyway I don't try to clean skin the head much.
