It was a 2008 that I bought new as a leftover in 2009. I had just rolled the odometer to 100,000 the month before the tree fell on it. That knocked down the insurance pay out.

I mostly used it for short hops towing my backhoe and hauling construction equipment locally.

It's the same truck as the new one except for the shorter bed and one level up in trim.

I remember how difficult it was to find a double-cab with an eight-foot bed back in 2009. My dealer finally located one 400 miles away in Erie PA and had it delivered to Allentown PA for me to look at.

It has gotten harder to find a full length bed. I saw tons of extra short beds (5.5') for sale. Makes me wonder if folks bought them then realized how completely useless they are. They're basically an SUV with a little box on the back. Not to mention they're really stupid looking!

Milage on that V8? Looks like Tacomas only come with 4 cylinders now at least the Off Road model I looked up did.

A little under 53,000 Jerry. If I didn't have to tow my backhoe I would have bought a Tacoma.

Toyota discontinued the V-8 in 2022. I was going to buy a new one and was building it online until I couldn't find the 5.7L option.

Twin turbo V-6's are the option now. They are impressive with more HP and torque than my 5.7 which is no slouch. But they had trouble with them the first year and I just don't trust the durability of a small engine with that much power.

The old one had plenty, even before the tree fell on it. It had a rough life.

I'm sure the new one will have it's share before too long. That's what happen when you use a truck like a truck.

Dang! Been looking for that truck for weeks. They sure are pricey. My 04 Durango hemi blew a couple months ago. Bought a 2019 Silverado 5.3 and after about 400 miles it started to shudder and then got worse. 3 different transmission shops said they can’t get parts till October, if then. Low mileage tundras are sure hard to find.
Did your dealer Certify the new one?

I almost bought a 2018 Silverado Trail Boss to replace the Tundra until I started really doing my homework and saw all the trouble GM's been having with the Ecotec engines and their refusal to fix the problems. I own two older 3/4 Chevy cargo vans. They have the Vortec engines and have been very reliable. The stuff I read about the Ecotecs shut down the idea of getting a newer GM.

This Tundra was not Certified but of course they tried to sell me an extended warranty package, they always do. And like always, I declined.

It was a long search to find this one. I looked at dozens, maybe hundreds of Tundras, F-150's and 250's over a three-month period before I landed on this one.

I'm with you in being leary of those super charged small engines, but that seems to be the trend. And I think Law Dog is right about the new Tacomas only having the 4 banger,but they say it is the most powerful Tacoma ever.
Anyway, your Tundra looks like a nice truck and I hope it serves you well!

Long bed full size pickups are like finding a chicken with teeth.

And it seems like finding a '21-'23 Tacoma with an Access cab is the same. All I can find in searches within 500 miles of me is 4 doors with 5-1/2 foot bed. Pretty much worthless as a truck.

It's my understanding that the V-8's are being phased out by all car manufacturers due to EPA-mandated mileage requirements. I haven't researched that, it's just what I'm hearing.

On the Tundra? Crap, like most of the v8 models in any brand. Maybe a touch worse. Best ive ever done was a touch over 17 and that was babying it at 55-60.

Darn tree--we had 1 fall on a truck once, it's a bummer.

Yeah, Toyota trucks are infamous for their poor gas mileage. My old Tundra (5.7L) averaged around 11 mpg. I once got 18 mpg out of it on a long drive with cruise control. Towing my backhoe (machine + trailer=9,000lbs) I get about 7-8 mpg.

My 3/4 ton Chevy vans are not a whole lot better with about 12 mpg average.

You want to talk poor gas mileage? Fill my 80's-something ten-ton Chevy Dump with the huge gasoline V-8 up and cruise around, about 4 mpg loaded.

At least this one came with the upgraded 38 gallon tank. The standard 26 gallon Tundra tank was/is too small.

I am sure that was just what you did not need to have to deal with .I am one of those that has a truck with a 5.5 bed and the crew cab 4 door I agree with your statement regarding hauling anything in the bed But hauling things in the truck bed was not something I did often In general I see more people with a truck pulling a trailer behind My plan was to use it as a trapping/hunting vehicle more than general transportation I would haul my dogs in the back seat I had a canvas hunting gear organizer that hung off of the front seat You could put your guns ammo hunting clothes in the assorted pouches that where part of the organizer It held a lot of gear but was never a problem in keeping it where it was supposed to be and so long as iI put things where they belong I did not have a problem of not having things i needed On the bed of-the truck I had a Diamond Back bedcover It was made of aluminum and it was everything you could ask for in a bed topper for your truck Easy and quick to install or remove With a pair of saw horses [quote][/quote] and a channel locks it can be Taken off by one person in about 10 minutes It is leakproof and due to the construction it is very secure and can be locked by a solid locking system Once it Is installed you can set up where ever it works best concerning the lay out of your gear lure set making tools etc . I have a 2018 Tacoma access cab when I bough it the salesman was surprised that was what I wanted that and not a 4 door.
