I’ll be happy to spend my time around Fremont St. I’ve done a bunch of research over the last few days so it looks like I won’t starve lots of cheap options to eat if you look around. There’s a smokeless casino in the Plaza and another one on the strip I can’t stand smoking places my sinuses would burn for a week.

I priced it out after I got back. $247CAD for 12 hours. Vegas is one of 3 or 4 cities where Hertz will rent you one. Shelby & Hertz have had the “rent a racer” since the sixties I believe.

I couldn’t believe people could smoke in all those big casinos. I thought I had to walk a 1/4 mile back outside to have a dart.

I think it's great that NV allows businesses to make up their own mind as to whether or not to allow smoking. Lawdog doesn't like smoking, and some of the casinos have realized that there are a lot of non-smokers and so choose to operate non-smoking casinos to appeal to that crowd.... exactly the way capitalism is supposed to work!

The Plaza Hotel downtown has a no smoking section ( Brian Christopher) that can be accessed from the street only and one of the MGM casinos on the strip it totally non smoking the whole place is smoke free.

Rent a car and hit Red Rock Canyon, it's beautiful, the a tour of the dam to see the turbine's, probably be less expensive than gambling, but if you like gambling go early to binions and play some Black Jack with the cowgirls, at the very least it's nice scenery.

Second for the mob museum. If you like the history of organized crime, its pretty good. Ditto Fremont street. Always something going on down there.

That’s the way to do it. Spend money on the stuff off the strip or on the side attractions. Dam next year and probably atv adventures. We did some gambling in the evening or to kill time before a show. Never really played black jack at a real table before. First time, I stopped at 18 and the dealer bust but swiped my chips away. I look at him and the lady beside me with a quizzical look and she says “he bust, you won” then a senior dealer watching steps in and corrects the guy. Still gotta know what you’re doing. That dealer could swipe a pile of chips at the roulette table if a rookie was playing.

There is something for everyone if you look, fun place.

Binions has about the best odds running, I enjoy tossing the cubes there. I went often for quite a few years with an older employer who was friends of Benny Binion. We sat often with him downtown at his booth where he liked to watch things happen. Very approachable guy tho i never spoke with him without my employer present. Anything we wanted to see or do he arranged immediately in that town.
He has a very interesting back story, the horse interests and land he held in east central Montana were pretty neat.

Law if your any kind of night owl a lot of casinos have great food offerings at super prices late in the evening on. Enjoy!

Been to Vegas a few times. The only thing I somewhat liked was some of the buildings and a couple of the Cirque du soleil shows. About everything else was annoying (including most of the people). Some people in vegas thinks they are someone special. Everyone thinks they are a high roller or something.

Never get far off the strip. It's a toilet. I had to get a hotel off the strip one night when they canceled my flight. The hotel was a crack house. I walked out of there and about a mile back to the strip with my pistol in my hand.

The food used to be cheap and decent. It's not anymore.

Best thing I've done in Vegas was rent a car and drive through the desert to Palm Springs. Lots of old history through that dessert and brings back stories of Johnny Thorpe and others who used to live out there and trap cats for months on end (before the commie state shut it down, of course). I always said if I get terminal cancer, I'm loading up the truck and trapping that stretch of desert between vegas and Palm Springs.

The last time I was on Fremont street two grown men were walking around with nothing on but diapers. We always ate at the 4 Queens or the California off Fremont a couple blocks. This was before covid so more food choices then and cheaper than now.

I avoid Fremont and that end of the strip its dirty and old. Freaks everywhere and one of the few places I've felt unsafe walking around . We tend to go during NFR so lots of cowboys and country people in town.

Might be a hockey game playoffs but not sure when your going.

I'd avoid the circus circus and stratosphere area especially at night , unless you're a gang banger .

If you like Mexican food I'd hit Tacos El Gordo

At night, I found Fremont quite safe. Fire Department set up in the middle. Officers walking all over. But dang near every ally you look down, they had someone in cuffs.

Being raised in Chicago I can navigate the street part of it no problem that little guy on my shoulder is always there saying “ nope don’t go there” . The only time I’ll ramble is to eat, if I don’t like the neighbors I can live in the Hotel if needed. We will ramble as a group of 4 of us for meals.

I’ll take a cab to the Strip if I want to hit the other nonsmoking Hotel. I have no desire for dark, smokey and dirty places like Chicago. I won’t go looking for trouble if I find it I’ll deal with it I’m used to that.
