Ah now after reading about skunk cabbage I think that’s correct. The odor gave it away. I just thought at the time that someone was nearby smoking something questionable. Try smoking it You’re more of a troublemaker than you let on!!! Ha ha.

When I was a kid , there was tons of that stuff in the creek by my house. My brother and I , being little brats , we used to go into the patch with a big stick and beat the heck out of it just for fun. Mom didn't like the stink we created.....lol

I've never been able to detect a bad, or skunky smell from skunk cabbage. I only notice the odor when they are blooming. Around here eat them in the spring. They don't seem to have much of a smell unless disturbed. Much like a real skunk! LOL If I walk through them or step on one they have a decent skunky smell.
