Took the OLD Iver single 12 for a quick tour a bit ago to see if I could shoot some striped gophers before the grass along the roads got too tall.
Only took 7 low base 8s.
Used them up in quick time.
Called a guy I know that has asked me to shoot them on his driveway to see if he had any ammo.
" let me look" he said.
Called me back shortly n said, I found a box but didn't know what was all in there.
" here, take it all".

Ended up killing 14 gophers in a few miles drive. Doing it to try and keep Badger numbers away.

That "Bag" of Federal Lightning is pretty cool. I don't believe I have ever seen one of those before. If it isn't opened, that may be worth stashing away.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Does it seem odd to anyone else that some counties in Minnesota have a bounty on its mascot?

Though about it for years now. Why dont the makers of .22lr make them like those old Yellow Jackets?

Dang, those were great shells!!.
Couple of those old 12 Guage rounds felt good!!.
Had some punch!! Blew a few gophers into the air.
Unreal how that old lead stuff works/ feels compared the standard junk we have now days.

I haven't shot a gopher with a shotgun in maybe 40 years. Felt good.
smile

Kinda sucks though...,a Warbler may eat a lead pellet and tip over. laugh

When I was a kid all we used was a 22 to butcher beef. Over the years ammo got more and more inconsistent and we ended up going to a 22 mag as a butcher gun. I sure do like 22 mag and have several at the ready and they come in handy when things try to eat the chickens or guineas.

No gophers, no badger digs. I am at seven gophers in the yard, with the pellet rifle out of 8 shots. I shot under one. The shots have been from 7 yards out to 40. I shoot what ever I want in the yard as far as guns go, but feel the pellet rifle makes it sporting. It is a 22 caliber gas piston Benjamin. I did a trigger job on it when I first got it and it is fun to shoot.

Like you, I can use whatever I want around here. I had a woodchuck that was giving me fits. I finally connected with him with the 264 Win Mag and it put a fine red mist in the air. Very satisfying!

I shot about 70 striped gophers today.
Most all in a 7 mile stretch of road.
About 50 with a .22, the others with 12 Guage # 8s.
Important to keep thier #s down if there are Badgers around.

I just wacked another one. The last two have been under the bird feeder. They seem to like the grain. I have been shooting stripers too. I have only ever seen one Richardson at the house. There are some a mile south and north. Do you have franklin ground squirrels there?

Yeah Mark, we do. May see 1 or 2 a year. They are a bit more high strung.
Some areas with cattle have Richardson. Used to be more years ago. We'd stalk them with bows. Usually just their heads peaking out.

Around Grand Forks there was a lot of Franklins. They are pretty hard to trap. They like tall grass and can be hard to spot. We have a pretty good population of the Richardson around here. I took the Grandson out the other day with a 22 to shot them. I just let him shoot.

Dang 160...a 264 for a g-hog....lol ...love it! I'm envious of where you guys live that allows you to shoot whatever. I live in yuppieville aka suburbs....too dang expensive to buy land around here. Gotta be sneaky sometimes to get the job done...lol keep whackin' and stacking'! Bucks you ever shoot crows? Talk about some fun shotgunning.

160user That is where light bullets shine. I once shot a jack rabbit with a 60 gr round nose out of the 25-06. It vaporized. I never did coronagraph those, but they should have been scooting. I would not say they were real accurate, but they were fun when you hit something. I never had a exit on a coyote with one, but I had entrance blow ups that were worse than any exit hole I ever had on a coyote.

10 kills to the mile! That many bet it’s dangerous to ride a bike on your roads !! Hit one spin around hit couple more. Such carnage! But I guess it keeps the Amish off your roads
Post some pics. Never seen a gopher in my life. Don’t have them around here
70 man that’s a lot of gophers! Got to be some kind of record.
Going to start calling you bill Murray
Gopher slayer esquire!!!

Smell of rotting gophers must be awful with 70 laying beside the road. You would go to jail in Ky for shooting from the highway.
