These older computered trucks
drive me crazy. Think I'm going
for the timing chain on mine.
If it was a 1970 that is how it acts.
Shops with their meters have been
useless. Wish you guys were my neighbors.

Good luck, I feel the pain.

Thanks for all the great advice and ideas.

I just tried another battery that was charged up good. It cranked real slow, barley going around. When I cranked it for like a minute straight to see if it would pick up speed, My buddy noticed smoke coming off the positive battery post at the connector. It was heating.

I have been cleaning all the grounds I can find, still a few to go yet.

Jeff, you need to get a volt meter. Even a cheap $25 dollar one from from Amazon will be good enough for what you're doing. It will take a LOT of the guesswork out of your troubleshooting.

A volt meter, possibly a set of longer leads for it, and google how to do a voltage drop test. You are basically testing how much voltage loss there is in cables, connections, components. As mentioned before, cables can look good when they aren't. Connections can be corroded. Switches burned or corroded internally. It's a simple test that can reveal a lot. Plus you will find a lot of other uses for the meter.

Thanks, I do have a multimeter on the way, it should be here in a couple weeks. Electrical troubleshooting is not my strong suit. Hopefully I can figure it out.
