Whats going on, I read the forecast this morning for mid Minnesota and it said "areas of smoke". The forecast was spot on, I can hardly stand being outside due to the heavy smoke smell and hazy air. I would have thought after a summer of fires last year there wasnt anything left to burn. Didnt the snow this winter put any fires out or do the Canadians just like to play with matches? The smoke it erasing all of the "good" the electric vehicles are doing cleaning up the planet.

A band of very heavy smoke from wildfires in northeast British Columbia has moved into northern Minnesota and will sweep south across the state on Sunday behind a cold front. The smoke will continue to move across northeastern and north central Minnesota this afternoon with maximum smoke impacts expected Sunday afternoon and evening but will linger overnight. Areas along Lake Superior may have some local clearing from the smoke Sunday afternoon before smoke settles again overnight.

I have nothing clever to put here.

A lot of dead pine beetle wood,,,,

Poor/no forest management,,,

Very dry conditions,,,,

A lot of dumb people out in the bush,,,

Very little investment in fire fighting equipment,,,

Good chance it’ll be worse than last year,,,,a lot worse. Hope not

Thank goodness we've got all the " pine tree pimps " protecting our forests from logging so they can burn up and put more harmful carbon into our air and wreck havoc for all the people with lung conditions or breathing problems !

I feel they should have to pay for the fire suppression and then replanting of our timber area's and mountains !

You're friend along the snare line .

We have a “carbon tax” up here

Very very little of the tax money goes toward fire surppression

Last year many of the big fires where started by “climate extremists”

In some cases(most??) it’s just better to let the fires go,,,, protect the infrastructure

^^^. I hear you Allan. Only took over a century of forestry mismanagement to get where we are at now.

As to the Canadian fires. I think it was one of the videos from BC Newfie that showed smoldering fires under the snow in the dead of winter this past season. I would imagine there will be numerous of those spots coming back, if they haven’t already.

Canada needs to get their crap together. Their failure to responsibly take responsible care of their resources hurt air quality over much of the US. We should make them pay us damages.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any idea on how many people it takes to fight fire in a remote and roadless area? I will give you a hint, for every set of boots on the ground there will also need to be another handling meals, supplies, finances, logistics, etc. Financially, it makes more sense to wait until it comes out to a road or something you can defend or work off of. Back country fires are a suck on resources with very little values at risk in the big scheme of things.

I understand that it takes a lot of people and resources to fight a major forest fire or to respond to any other major disaster. I understand that Canada is not much of a country. Canada still should have worked to the best of it's ability to control the fires. Canada's response to the fires was not adequate.

If Canada can't control it's territory, someone else will take it. Currently it's a toss up whether people from India or China will rule Canada in the future, with a outside possibility Muslims from several countries will. Most likely Canada will be divided between immigrants from several foreign countries. It's a certainty that Canadian of English and French descent will lose control in 25 years or less.

most of northern Manitoba is still in a drought, so the smoke is from a 3000 ha, fire 800 km north of Winnipeg
day 1 of smoke advisory and many more to come
160user has it figure out as to boots on the ground the 6 to 1 ratio until evacuations then 10 to one on the line
until it start to hit infrastructure is there deployment

X2, hundreds of thousands of acres of industrial timberland here in northern NY, no longer managed for timber.

I’m not sure Keith is absolutely correct and I of course am no expert on that subject but I get into some awfully far flung/remote places in northern Canada and I’m surprised at the incredible number of people I have to deal with who are of those lineages.

I’m not sure why I’m dealing with Hopi Swangoolie instead of the Canadians I always have previously.

Here we go again. Yes, the fires kinda went out in winter, but the snow melts when spring arrives then it’s very dry. Lightning is the cause of lots, I’m sure back roads travel bans will be soon. Quads mudding through loon crap is bad.
Priority levels….

If resources are tied up protecting the top 2, just let the other fires buck man.

Brilliant, let's put a tax on something invisible, natural, and impossible to effectively manage, then tell everyone it is going to help save the planet. What's next, a breath tax?
