Great picsJP. Good to see back out.
But in my opinion, I'd change baits sight if available. 40 ± years of hunting bears has learned me..., nothing good becomes of a bait where a sow and cubs frequent.
My opinion. It felt good to sit out there this evening! I thought I was going to have a big one come in. The evening felt right! Ended up only seeing those 2 sows and their cubs, 3+2. I use to hate having sows and cubs take over a bait, but these sows will be coming in heat this Spring and I feel like big boars will check out the bait site looking for them. I’ll sit at my other bait one day this week and see if that toad of a bear is still around.

Good luck JP. We’re lucky enough that the sows at our baits are toting yearlings, soon they’ll be gone and maybe a big boar will slip up. For three years now we’ve been after a giant black and a very large cinnamon but so far, they’re winning the battle of wits. Lol I hope you or your boys get a crack at one of them! If I want a Cinnamon I need to set a bait 2-4 hours away. I’m seriously thinking about it for next year. Keeps us posted I have enjoyed your journey. Thanks snowy! I hope I can share pics of a bear down!

I hope I can share pics of a bear down! Thanks, me too. We’ve got good colour phase numbers. Currently have seven different colour phase bears on camera, two are yearlings though. One is a beautiful blonde but he’s not grown up yet and is an immature boar so he’s safe from us. The sow with three yearlings that comes to my yard daily is getting less safe each day because I’m tired of cleaning up after her. Thanks for starting the thread.

Jurassic are these bigger bears coming in when you are sitting? You got me going, I will be in a tree in a little over a week up there. No, the bigger ones haven’t come in while I’ve been sitting. I’ll be shooting them if they do lol. So far the 2 sows and their cubs have come in twice now. I just got back to my truck. Big storm rolling over and I’m completely soaked! Not fun sitting in the rain like that lol. Hopefully I’ll get a chance this weekend to hunt again. Good luck when you get up here! Are you after a big bear or anything goes?

What,,,, don't let that rain messing up your hair detour you. You still have a few minutes, get back in the stand.!!. I guess I could travel up and build you an enclosed blind? Lol.
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Lol, hunting in the rain isn’t fun and it was more than a little rain. Down right pouring on me. Kind of a freak storm that popped out of nowhere. All day long the weather channel was showing a clear evening. Then when I checked as I was heading out it showed an hour of rain. Ok, I can handle that, but then there was an extreme weather warning out and bunch of hail like Northof50 said. I didn’t get the hail, but got everything else!

At first I will be after a good bear. But I like to eat them so after a few days I would take a smaller bear. Not really a big trophy hunter when I leave home, more after the meat.

You better get cracking and start shooting some before the pelts start to get rubbed. The big ones hold their pelts longer but arent as good for eating as the 150 pounders..
