I'm planting a lot of black diamond water melon this year
Blk Diamond are around 100 day when I planted them had trouble getting them ripe
I started most things inside before putting in the garden . I'm hearing most people don't plant until memorial weekend, I started about the tenth of May.
Tonight is our last night under fifty degrees.
I think the thin fabric helps on cool nights, I can remove the fabric tomorrow

Got .6ths last night and just finished with a twenty minute down pour that gave us 1.25 inches of very cold rain and lots and lots of pea sized hail. My plants here are okay as they were small and not wind driven. Ground is really cold now. Going over to my other garden with all the set plants to see how they are doing later today.

Cool, it sounds like even more rain coming for our area.
Has it rained a lot there this year too?

Tonight is our last cold night, 46° after that it's above 50°
Your ground should start warming more in a day or two I think.
Are you south or central WI?

Yes, in fact drizzling today. No flood stage rains but plenty for this time of year. It's welcome after one of the lowest snowfall years on record. It's good for our water table. With our temps going through the roof the last 10-15 years and precipitation plummeting we'll take it when we can get it lol.
I'm hoping for a year that I don't have to water the garden constantly.

Our groundwas actually quite warm. It is the coating of ice on the ground now that will cool it down for a bit. Plants in the open were not hurt too much. My hostas along the north and east side of my house with the hail bouncing off the siding got lots of hail and were damaged more. Set plants in the other garden are all okay. Lot of recently planted fields with 3-7 acre ponds in them east of me. Some water over the roads in a couple places. Still raining lightly yet.

I'll remove the white fabric tomorrow, last night below fifty degrees here
It was dry here last couple summers, that's why I wanted a bigger rain water container for the garden

We were at Bible study this AM comparing rainfall amounts. One person about 10 miles from me stated they have had 11.5 inches in the last 8 days!!! That was the highest level. I think we are at a bit over 6 where I live.

Wow, 11 is a lot of rain,
I transferred 17, sweet corn plants last night.
The corn I get is really good but only about 80% germinates.
So before the fourth leaf appears I move some I grew extra to the empty spots.
