For several years, I maintained baited trail cameras just above my house near a creek. They were usually baited with road-killed deer carcasses, but sometimes coyote or beaver carcasses. They had to be wired down so the wolves and lions didn't take them away. I got literally 1000's of photos of mountain lions, wolves, golden eagles, and foxes, and documented at least 17species of critters on the bait. Fun and revealing project.

I won't bore you with the many kinds of dickeybirds captured on the camera. For illustration, here is a gray catbird.

Right above the fox is a deer mouse eyeshine. The deer mice were too small to trip the camera by themselves.

Wolves were fairly common, but would take a minimum of 2 weeks to feel comfortable with the "sleuth" cameras.

Mtn. lions, especially the youngsters, would visit the bait immediately. They didn't seem at all wary.

Coyotes were almost as wary as wolves, and never spent much time at the baits.

If there was a marten nearby, it would be on the carcass regularly, starting with the first night. Not at all bashful.

Hope you all liked the images...

Jack

You have perfect places around your house to set cams. Lots of neat things to see. Thank you, Jack.

A good bait is an excellent draw for all kinds of fur and other animals that attract the fur animals.
Great pics Gulo.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
