Interesting collar-ties.
Do you have much of a snow-load? What kind of roofing material?[/quote]

The roof is assembled with parallel cord trusses. snow load is around 40psf I think? To be honest, as pretty as I made that, its just faux timber framing which I'm tired of doing. I wish we could just do it for real. With all the modern building techniques, it's just easier to stick frame and fake it til you make it. The collar ties don't do jack..... that was a 1.2 mil remodel

I hung me some shingles back in the dark ages when I weighed a little bit more than a bundle of shingles.
My job was to carry those bad boys up a 20 something foot ladder then up to the peak. It was rough in the beginning, but by the end of the summer I was a man.
We did one roof with the interlocking barn shingles. I could not get those up the ladder. They bundles were heavier and didn't stay on your shoulder like regular shingles. I was too top heavy with those on my shoulder and couldn't pick up one foot off the ladder without falling off of it. It takes a real man to roof for a living.
