Got my new Weatherby Orion O/U sport yesterday. It's pretty nice. No eye candy on it, but I don't care much about that. I was looking for something dependable for around $1000. Anyway, I shot it today just to try her out. 44 out of 50 shooting trap. Not bad for the first time on a new gun. I have some tweaking to do on the stock I think, and I'm not sure the length of pull is perfect, but I can work with it, that's for sure. Still a gun made in Turkey but hopefully, it's going to have better quality than that TriStar.

I bought a older model at a gun auction years ago. The thing looks brand new but still haven't taken it out and shot it. Shot a round of sporting clays with a friends Orion and loved shooting it.

A lot of people gripe about the fore stock being "pregnant" The way it's carved. However, I have very big hands, and it fits me just fine. Other than that, I haven't heard much bad about it.

They are made in Turkey now? I'm sorta surprised on one hand. Weatherbys were made by Miroku at one time but that was also in an era when production of many of the O/U's common to the US was shifted over to Japan. The Miroku brand isnt a common name in US but they do hold a decent market share in Europe against the Berretta brand. And if you shoot a Citori or an old Winchester 101 it was made in Japan by Miroku.

Only the cheapees are made in Turkey. This was about a grand. If you start looking at O/U made in the states, with a few exceptions, bust out your wallet for $2000 starting. As far as I know, Weatherby is still top of the line and the expensive top notch stuff is not made in Turkey.

That makes sense. Production of one model being in Turkey and another model coming out of Japan or Italy. I've got an old Orion but I recall there was another higher grade model---maybe Athena. I think Ruger still makes the Red Label here in the states but I've never picked up one that had any handling feel I liked. I use the old Orion as a waterfowl gun in early season timber. It's short and relatively fast in tight quarters. You'll enjoy it

Weatherby contracts out for all of their firearms. They have never manufactured a firearm with their name on it.
I'm not saying they don't offer quality firearms, because they do. I have a Weatherby deer rifle that I thoroughly enjoy, and it's a tack driver to boot.
Their shotguns vary in sources. In the past they marketed O/U and S/S shotguns made in Italy. Not sure about their current offerings (??).

Winchester has some stuff made in Turkey now. A LOT of shotguns, mostly cheaper models, are made in Turkey. They kick out some decent stuff in my opinion. I have my hopes up for an Impala Plus I bought off Gunbroker today.

That Orion is beautiful but doesnt fit me very well unfortunately.
