I don't think the chigger is under your skin. It bites you and moves on and bites you some more. We used to put nail polish on the bites to smother the chigger. Now we know that is not effective.

I think the hair spray sounds like good idea. Did forget that for that to work. You're going to needed a lighter with that method.

The solvent in the fingernail polish and hairspray may just dry up the bite area, resulting in some relief. The actual chiggers are long gone. They are the nymph stage of a mite. They don't burrow under your skin. They suck out some fluids, leaving their spit behind which is what itches, then move on to become adults somewhere else, mate and infect someone else's sack.

I take my wife hairspray and spray the area with a very heavy dose, it will suffocate them in about 15 minutes and you good to go.

I just dig'em out with my fingernails until it bleeds. That fixes them.

best way to get rid of chigger bites is to not get bit, shower after any possible exposure and spray down with a good bug spray before venturing into chigger land.

I scratch at the bites until they bleed and then dump alcohol on them. It seems to do the trick.

Chigger bites are just like other bug bites. Like mentioned, the chiggers are long gone by the time they itch.

One thing to be aware of is that it takes several hours between the time a chigger gets on you before biting you and injecting you with its digestive enzymes.
If you know of areas where chiggers are likely to be a problem, as soon as you get home, mix 50-50 water and bleach in a bowl and soak a warsh rag in it and wipe your entire body with it. Wait for your skin to start tingling then take a shower as hot as you can stand. This works for seed ticks and other ticks as well 100% of the time that I have done it. I live amoungst these devil spawn on nearly a daily basis. It works.
