This may be a question just for PA guys cause I’m sure every state is different. Is there a map or another way to find out if land is not owned by an individual? Would I go to the DCNR site?

Indiana and KY both have interactive maps of the states on their website. I would guess your state is the same

Now each property may have it's own rules, hunting hours, and bag limits and different dates for things. For example some have no bonus antler tages allowed, and state land in Indiana turkey hunting stops at noon or 1 Eastern depending on where you are in the state. But private ground it's all day tell half hour before sun set.

Back in the day,I used.plat books or went knocking on doors. Now Onyx or similar app is the way to go.

They had platmaps on one of the old VHS trapping videos I had. It was one of my favorites with Tom Miranda, Bernie Berringer and Mark June. The Professionals of Water Trapping. I watched it over and over when I was in my 20’s

Many counties have gone to interactive online GIS maps to use in place of plat maps. I know both Georgia and Alabama have.

Most, if not all, counties in PA also have interactive GIS maps that will give you lots of info.

Found this in the Digest. Looks like a link for state land. I went there but have no idea what county you are looking for but you should be able to find what you are seeking.

A word of caution. There's public owned and public access, there's a difference.

I haven't dug deep into Georgia but back home in Alabama there are tracts scattered all over the state owned or managed by all sorts of state agencies and schools. Most of it not listed on any central site and with varying degrees of access. Lots of trust land left to various universities. Most off limits or limited access.

And then there is the issue of many tracts being landlocked as well. Do your homework on accessing public land.

Well less than half will cal you back in my experience, even with multiple calls to them, but I have had success finding new hunting and fishing spots by calling game wardens.

Where it says “trapping by permit”, to get one requires sending a copy of your license to the office and they send you written permission for the specified property or properties depending how many you wish to trap.

I do a lot of traveling for turkeys and OnX is the best investment for me. Especially when hunting out West. Even here in my own State or surrounding States it helps as well.
And the best part about it I can sit here in my recliner during the “it’s too hot to do anything” months and plan next years trips. Loaded spots for Montana and showed up and less than 36hrs had my bird killed and then spent some time just exploring that beautiful State.

I’m prob gonna have to get a new phone if I want it tho. Needs iOS 16. My cell phone is an iPhone 7 and it won’t update that far. What a royal pain!!

It’s worth the phone/app investment. I havent been lied to by On X yet-the gps has been very accurate even in offline maps. Ive had plat maps lead me to believe I was good to go, when in reality I was trespassing. When cattle isnt ran on ag ground, farmers have no reason to fence. Sometimes things aren't what they seem.
