Nate, it certainly does look like late paleo/early archaic,,, the uniface definitely has me leaning towards the late paleo. Fantastic find… I’m trying to see if that material is Burlington chert…
I have a few pieces that Ive found over the years..
The cool thing about it is that some of these pieces are older than the pyramids in Egypt,,, and at a minimum.. the last human that held the artifact,, was over a thousand years ago. Weather a full unbroken piece, or a broken one,,,
It’ still makes your heart skip a beat. [Linked Image]

As far as I can tell it is Burlington Chert , here's a couple pieces I found on the same ridge, they are both uniface and the largest is worked on three sides the other on two seems to me they are scraper/ knife , definitely unique.
Thanks for posting your collection it's unreal.

Some of ya'll have some awesome collections. I've only found a couple in my life and one was a reproduction someone "planted". But I still look every time I'm out in my deer lease or wading a creek beaver trapping.

I found one metal detecting made of copper. I read somewhere that they made some out of copper. Ever heard of that?

Yes. Especially in the upper Great Lakes area. Almost pure copper can be found in lumps and was often worked by Natives into all sorts of items. Very cool find.

The one I found is longer than a standard arrowhead. One person who saw it said it was for a spear. I wish I knew how to post a photo of it on here.

Copper breast plate and copper ornaments were discovered years ago way down here in deep SW Georgia (Kolomoki Mounds SP). The copper was determined to have came from the Great Lake region.

Man you guys got some cool stuff..
Been some time since I found a point on my property. It was obviously a native camp site at one time many years ago .Saturday I was doing some yard work cutting up the latest tree top knocked down by storm. Don't take to much looking to find pieces from points being knapped.
There are couple places where after hard rain you can see all kinds of sparkling little chips. I'm told this type of rock was mined by natives just east of my place. Was apparently traded all up and down Mississippi river valley.

Mac, looks a little like Hixton. Most of that is more of a caramel color though.

It is what some call Hixtonite and yes these couple pieces are not as Carmel color as some.
My son found a piece of a point that is almost an orange color. My property where I find all these pieces is just north of Black River Falls at Hatfield. I talked one time with an archeologist about the points I have. He told me that this type rock was mined at Hixton , one place by Cataract and even one south by Prairie DuChien. Said you need to look at the 3 with a jeweler's loop to tell the difference...
I don't know if it's true or he was blowing smoke at me trying to tell me something I didn't know.

Yep, just a few small quarries where that stone is found. Their locations are generally jealously guarded by those that know them.

There was an episode of Outdoor Wisconsin with a flintknapper, and he works a lot with Hixton. I have several of his pieces, and they range from light tan to caramel to almost orange.
