Ok gang,,, can you freeze watermelon? Like cut it into chunks, put in a baggie and freeze it and have it thaw out okay… or would it go to mush?
Our Walmart has whole watermelon for under 5 bucks. I wanted to get a bunch of them just because.
I know they can sit for a while and not rot if you keep them in a cool dry spot,,
But was just wondering.

We freeze cantaloupe and like it esp. when the snow flies. We lay it out separately on something in the freezer then after frozen put it in batch size zip locks. Other wise if frozen together it will just be a big glob. Never tried water melon tho. Do a trial run on one and see.

Its edible after freezing, but not like fresh. It’ll be mushy. Pretty much only good for flavoring things like smoothies.

Juicing it isn't a bad option. Freezing it makes the consistency less pleasant, if you're not used to it. The flavor doesn't change much.

Eating the frozen melon is pretty good on a hot summer day, kids love melonsycles. Cut the chunks small.

Just pulled my first ripe melon today. With my wife and a 14 year old boy here a melon does not last long enough to get frozen here

At the Amish produce auction I go to, when the melons are coming in heavy, they get super cheap. If you buy a dozen, you can often get then for 10 to 50 cents each for watermelons, cantaloupe, honey dew and Aphrodite melons. Singles or doubles, usually don't go below a couple of dollars. Being thrifty, I usually buy the bigger number, for less total money, give a few away, consume some fresh and scoop out and freeze the rest in zip lock freezer bags, or buckets. I've never tried freezing them whole, but should try it.

I freeze a lot of corn, strawberries, blueberries and eggplant from the auction too. I can usually get sweet corn for 50 cents to a dollar a dozen at the peak of the crop, which makes it not worth growing.

I've frozen watermelon, when thawed the texture is unpleasant to me. Eaten half frozen is what like better.

Dehydrating it works good, lasts a long time and it’s great for snacks

I prefer the yellow melons but the red ones are ok

If your lucky enough to own or know someone that has one a freeze dryer is fantastic
