Wife just texted me about everywhere in town is taking out the the self checkouts because people stole too much. Deal is there not hiring more cashiers or getting more checkouts personally we loves self checkout. Faster, can bag my stuff the way we want and no awkward small talk, same with self service gas stations , there a certain way I want stuff done and I don't like fussing with folks when I can just do it myself,but now back to standing in line for 20min I guess, can't have nothing nice.

I refuse to go through a self check out. I believe that a lot steal from them. I just much rather see a person, talk the small talk and go on my way.

Hay personal preference is completely fine. Firmly believe they should have one or two self checkouts for weirdos like me and a half dozen regular checkouts for folks like y'all but seems they want to go either one way or the other too far
I mean hopefully this will make more of those jobs folks keep saying these where "stealing" but I honestly doubt it

I liked it better when the frocerystore rang up your purchase and the bag boy bagged all your stuff and carried it out to your vehicle.
I also liked it better when you pulled into a gas station and 3 guys came out,one to pump your gas,one to check your oil and wash all your windows and top up the rad and washer fluid and one guy checked the air pressure in your tires and pumped air when needed.
And they were all dressed in nice uniforms and were polite.
All that went away after the hippies took over.

Now things have really gone to shite.

Im with you wolfie i want to get in and get out and why should i stand there bored when i can be doing something. To each his own i guess. What grinds my gears is to get behind someone in self check who has a cart packed full. One of the attendants in self check told me those were really meant for people with not too much to check out. It all makes the world go round i guess.

For the most part, customer service is dead. It's primarily older people that hate self checkout, so what do they do? At the store I work at, at least, they go 100% self checkout before 10 am which is precisely the time when most older folks shop! Every single day older folks walk out leaving their carts behind. I can only imagine how much that must cost the store, surely more than the paltry $9/hr that they would pay a single cashier to stand there for 4 hours.

I agree, though, with wolfie that there's nothing wrong with having a couple self checkouts if people want to use them. I prefer going to a person instead, but if the line's 5 deep and I only have a couple items I'll hit the self-checkout.

Wellllllll, one thing, Boco. I have found that I would rather clean my windows myself. I am a specialty window cleaner and man am I picky. When I'm through with glass, on any type window, there are no streaks. No water buildup along framework. No little spots that could have been rubbed on harder to get those all off. I don't like dirty water or squeegees that are bent or falling apart. I even carry my own squeegee that is shaped just right for my windshield .

I MUST have clean windows, in cabin or truck. Inside and out. ....

Nothing against folks that do it for you at the station, I thank them for their effort. Then I re clean them myself .

O personally can't stand that type of thing, it just ...idk being waited on hand and foot just isn't my thing. Also overly polite or well dressed people just make me cautious. Used car or Jehovah's witnesses vibes.. not to mention I've had a lot of stuff messed up by other people.

I like self checkout because I can't stand waiting in line. Our local Dollar general closed the self checkouts because of theft. Now even with two employees you have to wait in line. I quit going there now

Yeeeppp that or Karen who sit there with a cart full basically hassling somone to checkout all her stuff for her instead of just going to the open register

Same lady who'd want to rant at the manager like that can just snap their fingers and make the self check outs disappear I swear I know most think mandatory military enrollment should be a thing but honestly I think everyone should have to work on the floor in a retail setting for a year or so because it never ceases to amaze me how absolutely clueless most are on how stuff works in retail now days

Back in the day if you worked at a place and you were lackadaisical you got fired.
There were expectations of excellence that were enforced no matter how menial the work.
later on you would see lots of useless lazy lumps collecting a paycheque in service work.(and other jobs)
That is the main reason those jobs have gone the way of the dodo bird.
A lot less people raised to have a solid work ethic today.

Yeah and pretty sure the customers weren't the WONDERFUL paragons of humanity we have now days ( and yes I mean that with complete and total sarcasm).
Not to mention back in the day the $5 a hour you made could actually do something for you. O and the whole deal of getting promoted for hard work was actually a thing. Now it's just common knowledge that if your a hard worker that doesn't complain 9/10 times most places will just use you till your spent.
Was raised to have a good work ethic but majority of place now days just see that as a free and easy ride. Working like a mule and getting treated like a dog changes people

Farm and fleet will have 1-2 cashier , long line

buying a 50# sack of feed , and the self check out will not let you leave it in the cart after you scan it with the little gun.

so I scan it like that , when it complains I toss from a distance that bag on the bagging area.

it should be smart enough to know it is a 50 pound bag and the girl sitting at the admin station looking bored should have some way to approve me not putting it there.

so far I have not gone through self check out with bags of concrete at home depot but you best believe if that stupid machine wants me to stack 10 bags of sackcrete on the scale I will not be gentle about it I am tossing them from the cart to the "bagging area"

Definitely prefer the self-checkouts! I hope they don't do away with them.

I don’t mind self checkouts. But what irritates me is when a store has half of the self checkouts shutdown because get this, they need an employee to monitor the self checkout area!!
They don’t hire enough staff to watch all the self checkouts, so they shut a bunch down.

So now I’m waiting in line for self checkout, while there’s like 6 checkouts not being used.

Another thing that’s bugs me is Tim Hortons drive thru having two lanes, but they put a pylon in front of one lane and don’t use it.

I don't like self checkouts. We buy a fair amount of stuff that is tax exempt, for the farm and have to use a cashier anyway. We also shop infrequently and the self checkouts are not designed for purchasing more than a few items. I have no desire to work at a store.

My main problem with self checkouts is that many people steal with them driving up prices. I don't want to have to pay more to help.thieves.

self check outs when you have 2 items ,not a big deal

at the grocery store I will bag if my wife wants to run that thing , I just loos patients with the computer after a while.

items like chicken by the pound you need to know the code for it doesn't look up

those self checkouts are for people buying a little bit of stuff with a skew on every package.

probably not intended for a 300 dollar grocery run heavy on produce.

...I've been to multiple places that do that, I just genuinely do not like that kinda treatment, don't understand why that's such a hard thing to get
