Few states have done the same.

Some, to.keep folks from hauling them in, hoping they'll take.

Others, to keep folks from pressuring them, so they'll be easier to trap/ eradicate, BEFORE they get pushed all over/ educated, making it harder.

Ohio, the latter.

Which state won't let you hunt on Sunday?

They got some real winners up in that part of the world...

Illegal to hunt them in Ontario too, for the same reason. Although my guess is that any eradication program will be underfunded and ineffective.

Just happy to be here.

I think the theory behind this is that pretty much all the hogs we have, more like used to have, are released hogs.

You wont be able to bring wild hogs into Ohio. You could still buy domestic pigs elsewhere.

heres the relevant proposed rules

Sec. 1533.75. (A) No person shall do any of the following:
(1) Import, transport, or possess live wild boar or feral
swine;
(2) Release wild boar or feral swine into the wild or
expand the range of a wild boar or feral swine by introducing
the wild boar or feral swine to a new location;
(3) Allow a swine that is under the ownership or
possession of the person to live in a feral state;
(4) Except as otherwise provided in section 1533.751 of
the Revised Code, hunt, trap, or kill a wild boar or feral swine
or assist in the hunting, trapping, or killing of a wild boar or
feral swine;
(5) Profit from the releasing, hunting, trapping, or
killing of wild boar or feral swine;
(6) Fail to notify the division of wildlife in accordance
with division (B) of section 1533.751 of the Revised Code.
(B) No person shall purposely feed a wild boar or feral
swine.
(C) A violation of division (A) of this section is a
strict liability offense and section 2901.20 of the Revised Code
does not apply.
Sec. 1533.751. (A) Except as provided in division rules, a
person, including a property owner, tenant, or person
responsible for a property's management, who knows or has reason
to believe a wild boar or feral swine is present on private or
public property shall notify the division of wildlife within
twenty-four hours of the person so knowing or having reason to
believe of the wild boar's or feral swine's presence.
(B) Except as provided in division rules, a person or a
person's agent who encounters wild boar or feral swine on
property owned or leased by that person may immediately
eradicate the wild boar or feral swine without a hunting license
required under section 1533.10 of the Revised Code if the person
or agent does both of the following:
(1) Notifies the division as soon as practicable, but not
later than twenty-four hours after the eradication or attempted
eradication of the wild boar or feral swine;
(2) Follows the instructions provided by the division
including the handling, preservation for testing, and disposal
of any wild boar or feral swine carcass.

good for Ohio.

Lots of "sportsmen" ruin things for others.

Just look at Texas, they whine about all the hogs ruining crops, competing with other animals, ruining habitat etc etc but then some "sportsmen" have pay to hunt hog hunts on their land.
Texans as a whole don't want to get rid of hogs, some are making bank on it.
Taking away hunting for hogs takes away the potential financial gain from unethical "sportsmen".

Just cause there is no hunting doesn't mean they can't be shot.

after reading the bill it appears you will still be able to kill any boar/feral pigs found on your property or have an agent of yours do it for you , just that you must report within 24 hours of kill or attempted kill.

they do not want any feral hogs as we all know they are a pest and destroy crops.

Ohio sits in a place where big east coast money can drive there in a day and pay stupid money for fenced hunts

this states that Ohio would rather make their money on hay , beans , livestock and corn than high fence hunts with a significant danger of escape.

I don't see where this is bad when you look at the text of it

Ohio used to be no hunting on Sunday. I think they changed that about 30+ years ago when I was a kid but I'm old enough to remember thinking I was going to go hunting and realizing it was Sunday. Kinda like Chic-Fil-A smile.

They'll ban the hunting of them until they get overrun with them like some states already have.

they are banning the import for hunting

the legislation allows land owner or agent to kill or attempt to kill every wild/feral hog in the state

this is to discourage high fence hunting places or anyone trying to make a dime on boar or feral hogs

this is a headline intended to push buttons , with a bill that is intended to keep feral hogs and wild boar from being intentionally transported into the state

Here in Georgia, over the years, many landowners that would not give permission to hunt had a trailer load of feral hogs released on their properties. A couple years pass and they're begging for hunters.

I have a friend who goes somewhere in TX every year to pay good money to hunt hogs on this one person's property. I could see where somebody would import them to make money from people hunting them. Many years ago, we paid a rancher in Arkansas to hunt them. So, this isn't something new.
