Is the fur market gonna be getting better? Another fur boom maybe?? And what causes prices to go up and what caused the 2012-2013 fur boom? Or was that 2014?

Not for PA fur.
$6 fox
$10 yotes
$3 rats
$6 mink
$5 coon

It won't come back in my lifetime because of geopolitics

The Chinese were going around the export tariffs so they drove the price up on purpose
The Chinese government took care of those 8 buyers and invested in fur farms
Now they don't need US fur.
That's how I heard it

Northern fur has been rising steadily for a while now.
For examplw-Marten bottomed out the year after NAFA folded my avg for the few skins I had there was $25 bucks.
Last sale avgs were $80+
As far as other more commercial fur, only beaver is decent right now,but the low prices are climbing.
Sanctions on Russia and the war in Ukraine are slowing the recovery, but seems the industry finds its way around some political roadblocks for the high fashon items.

Fur sales today are retarded by misinformation. N. American women perceive it as cruel. There is a push on to force people to stop eating meat. We are told its unhealthy and changing the climate.

It will rise, someday, but it will be tough to make serious money trapping fur. Look at all the states, cities, and even countries imposing restrictions on trapping and fur sales.

We need popular influencers to promote wild fur, or the wild fur market will continue to decline.

I thought the bigger boom was early 80s late 70s.
Supply & demand. Beaver….. People want cowboy hats & fedoras, they need more wool and buy lots more beaver because their orders spiked, the warehouse gets full so they don’t buy more. Now the castor markets flooded and that goes down because the price of beaver went up and every Tom, Dick & Harry pulled their old 330s out. Beaver stop selling, castors everywhere, guys give up trapping and the number of pelts drops too…..now they’re running low on pelts in the warehouse and Beonce’ just switched to country music…….and they’ll probably need way more hats! The beaver markets low cuz Tom, Dick & Harry gave up trapping so they bid high cuz they need the pelts. Then trappers hear the news and gear up next season and flood the market….then the warehouse gets full…..aaaand a predictable cycle…..lol.
Some fur never really seems to be effected, can always get good $ for a healthy wolf, even for a coarse Manitoba one.
Canada Goose jackets….they stopped using fur on their ruff, coyotes crashed. I inquired about their ruff, and they’re not using fake fur, just a different material. Their yote source was probably in a Chinese prison…..lol

If fur prices go up 10% and everything else goes up 30%, is it even a rise???

One thing people don't seem to consider is how good synthetic fabrics have gotten. For high quality warmth fur used to be the only game in town, now synthetics are quite good.

logically one would think that fur being "sustainable" which is a big buzz word in many circles, food and building for example that it would.
This group I would think would be OK with fur.

We also know there are many who are against the use of any animal product or anything that they perceive as cruel when animals are concerned.
This group is too emotional and logic has little to no basis in their thoughts.

Trouble is the last group while small is loud and gets lots of attention.

These forces have partial determining factor if the fur market will rise.

If a fad starts where fur is in vogue again and the opponents of it are ignored then it will rise again.
Trouble is most fads start with popular or admired individuals, those people are usually concerned about their image, again if fur is bad they will generally avoid it.
Best hope is markets that don't follow, are ignorant or hostile to the western cultures develop a demand for fur.

The domestic market will remain small, best bet there is to capture as much of the supply chain as possible and ultimately sell directly to consumers. Make your own items using fur so that you can control all costs and get all the profits.
You don't rely on larger fur buyers who dictate the prices. At local farmer markets/festivals I see people selling fur items and there is no back lash against it, even in areas that one would assume a more "liberal" group.
I think this is the best way forward to market fur if your main concern is the financial end of it.

So long story short, I don't think fur market will ever rise significantly like it was in the '70's.

Wonder what Greta has in her bible about the footprint of those synthetics. If not the making of them then the disposal of them ?

i'm in these camps. Just can't picture a widespread scenario for ordinary garment fur that can command those prices given the world we live in. Put a $50 coon from say '77-79 into inflation calculator. It would need to be a $200 coon now. $100 reds at end of 70's would need to be around $400 mark. Even a $15 rat from back then would need to bring $60 in today's currency to be comparable. FYI--if you run the numbers to go back to say 2017-2018-2019 you see the significant current inflation spike.

Still profitable in some cases? Maybe. Depends where you are, what you've got to work with and how mentally and physically motivated you are. High enough value coon, rats and mink and you could stay on the positive side around here. In the 70's there werent the number of coon in these part. Now they are in nearly limitless supply so the equation does change. But the level in work put into it would rise significantly too. I might be getting too old to play the game at a financially profitable level

What’s the best synthetic winter hat? Doesn’t hold a candle to a cheap muskrat hat at -30 riding behind the Tundra on a sleigh, never mind the environmental footprint. You’ll pay good money and look cool with the latest big name logo on it, but be borrowing my hat when we stop to do a check to warm up the noggin….lol.

Marten sold for 4 dollars in 1960 which is about 20 today.
The fur market has always gone up and down over the last 400 years in north america and much longer than that in europe and asia.
You guys always seem to compare prices to the 1970s,why dont you compare them to the 1920s so thing can be spun to look even worse today?

If Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese would wear fur the market would rise.

Who knows maybe there will be another good fur market like in 1970s just got to have the right people try out fur and see it's good! If some famous person that every one adores wears fur, just imagine how good the market will be.
